Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: Dragon Quest X May Have a Single Use Registration Code!

If you were planning on waiting a bit to pick up a cheap used copy of Dragon Quest X, you may be out of luck. A game retailer claims that the game's box contains a registration code which is required for play. This, the retailer, says, would seem to make the game incompatible with used sales.

It's unclear how much of this is speculation on the retailer's part and how much is based off official briefings from Square Enix. DQX is due out in a little over a month, so we should get confirmation on just how used-friendly this latest DQX is soon.

so what do you guys think? is this a smart move or not? I know that the used games market is big on JP, so this could end up making way more money for the publisher.

I'd be very surprised if FFXV and DQX weren't to feature something like that. As you mentioned, used game sales eat massively into SP games sales in Japan.

im not against the concept, if say i can transfer the game to a new console should the old one bust or simply cause i have more than one and like to use both.

To summaries, anything that would prevent me doing what I want with my owned copy (apart from selling or lending)  would be a big turn off.

Not in the least bit surprised that it would have a single-use registration code.

Need I remind you that they offer you 20 free hours of gameplay on purchase? They're not going to offer that to second-hand owners, for obvious reasons. This single-use code will be to reclaim those 20 free hours.

The idea that Square Enix would prevent used game purchasers from playing is just plain absurd, given that the game is subscription-based.

i support it..i want the game to succeed

This is by no means unusual for console-based MMOs. I remember my copy of Phantasy Star Online came with an access key.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

is it on the DS or 3DS? the first dragon quest i played was Sentinel of Starry skies on DS, and I liked it a lot

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast had that... this is not a rumor, it's plain obvious.

... it's on the Wii and the Wii U. It was a major announcement, a while ago. How do you not know this already?

Hmm... I'm not getting the WiiU. At least, not for a couple years. E3 was the only thing I payed attention to WiiU-wise
