Everyone is talking about the end of this generation and the begining of the next. I am considering getting a Ps3 just to play Uncharted 3 and some other online games but... wouldn't it be better to save that money and buy a brand new shinny next gen Wii-U? I've read people saying that the HD twins are launching their next-gen consoles in 2013. Would that give me just one year more of support for my ps3?

Add the cost of a PS3 to the cost of the number of games you want to get for the PS3.  If the cost per game seems reasonable, then get it.  If Sony's next home console is backwards compatible with the PS3, then you trade in your PS3 for store credit or sell it.

Well, that's the thing with Sony. I still dont understand why we cannot play ps2 games on the ps3. But in the other hand, they are still producing Ps2 consoles, right?

Nintendo gives you good reasons for a hardware update: you can still play the games and use the old controllers. But if I had a PS2 and wanted a PS3, cannot use the games, cannot use the controllers. But it seemed like they supported the PS2 a little longer. (Well it was the most successful anyway, big userbase and so on). But the PS3 is the opposite, less succesful of the gen and smaller userbase.

Microsoft, for instance, once they had released the 360, the original xbox had no more support. And no backward compatibility either (I have the original star wars Kotor but my 360 just wont play it for some reason)

And, yes, I like Nintendo. We like Nintendo in my family. I may buy a pS3 for this holyday season and save money to get me a Wii U next year.

And I do not doubt that the WiiU will be a smashing success so Microsoft and Sony shouldn't take too much time to respond or it is going to cost them a lot of money.

I am not spending a lot of money in ps3 games, only AAA, or above 85% scores. Multiplat I will get them for my 360. But I would like a couple of years to enjoy the machine, but if Sony will be forced to catch up with Nintendo, they will put all their guns in developing games for the PS4. And we can kiss the 10 year plan good bye.

What? The original Wii is backwards compatible: you can play gamecube games and even use the gamecube controller to play wii games, like SSBB.

No, it would be only to late if the PS4 was announced. Because no one is a mind reader, it isn't to late. And even then, only to late if you don't have money to then buy a PS4 as well.

I know I have the old one I meant the new one the smaller version is not,

meh get PS3, then get PSN+. you don't need to buy any more games for it because the free games are enough tbh. LBP2 and just cause 2 are real fun.
