Forums - Gaming - My thumbs are too slow for Quick Time Events.

Okay, so I recently started playing God of War. Great game; it's fast paced, has great PS2 Graphics, bunch of  Quick TIme Events. That last one, though, is screwing me over. Whenever you encounter minotaurs (early in the game) you can press Circle when they're weak and initiate the QTE to finish them off. Kratos jumps on them, and while they're resisting he shoves his blades into theour mouths and kinda just pokes around in their skulls n' shit.

That should be happening if it doesn't require me to smash the Circle button continously to over power the minotaur. Every single time, my thumbs smash too slowly, and the minotaur just throws me off. Now whenever I have to do this I quickly put the controller down and press Circle with my index finger, which actually gets the job done.

Are my thumbs the only slow, clunky ones around here?

It's not just GoW either. I had the first Shrek movie-adaptation game on my GameBoy when I was younger (don't judge me - I was eight) and I NEVER passed one stage because it required me to continously press the B button so Fiona could outsing that one bird. My thumbs just couldn't do it. I did notice that I got closer to passing the stage when I put the Gameboy down and used my Index finger instead.

This was so freaking cool besides that one level.

Nope, I usually have to switch to my index finger, too.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of quick time events. Having to mash the circle button 500 times really doesn't add anything to the gameplay experience for me.

fucking pussy  :)

You would've hated gaming in the 80's man!

%90 of it was pressing a (or a combination of) buttons really quickly.

Let's go back - to The Future!

Funny as it sounds there are actually techniques you can learn to make you faster. I forget what they are, sure google could bring them up though. Think it was things like using your other hand to move the controller etc.

A friend of mine used to have a tactic for when playing the first MGS and there is that scene where you have to withstand the electricity(?). He simply got an old AA battery, put some blu tak on the end to make it fit the button and would then use that while holding it in his hand lol.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

I find that if I change the way I hold the controller, I can button mash pretty fast

... are you still using your thumb?

yeah.  For trails evolution there was a skill game where you had to button mash x and y to fly further and I used my thumbs for it but then they changed it so have to aim my guy with the left analog stick leaving me to use my index and middle finger to button mash and I thought using my thumbs was way easier.

I tend to press with my wrist and forearm, rather than my thumb. Give it a try; place your thumb on your controller, but keep it rigid, and move it using your whole arm.
