Well, that's good to know that their apps will continue working. Still, they're shafting their current customer base pretty hard here... Nokia, too. I wonder how the Finnish are taking this announcement (though I'm sure they were prepped for it beforehand). They can't be pleased that Microsoft essentially put up a huge sign saying "don't buy a Lumia 900, it's going to die".
Really, you're excited about BlackBerry 10? Really? People give a shit about Blackberry in 2012, despite the fact that the company has been wrong as close to 100% of the time as a company could be in the past half decade? Not making fun of you, just wondering why on earth anyone would consider giving RIM a nickel of their own money at this point.

Exactly! I'm a fan of the underdog and a blackberry user for over 3 years. I had the storm 9530 last me over 2 years and I haven't talked to anyone who has had it for over 6 months. I may end up buying both BB10 and WP8 as well.

The QNX platform is pretty nifty and I find myself unconsciously trying to use touch devices with the bezel gestures I've gotten so used to (my Nokia N900 included). All in all though I just like to see all these different tech companies bring their own unique flavours and twists to the world and provide consumers with the choice and experience they so desire. Having another company fall just makes us miss out on someone else's neat ideas on how to do something. Oh and I know you didn't ask about WP8 but I'll include why I'm looking into that anyways. I love Nokia's hardware. It hasn't done me wrong yet and I really love their design. I'm also becoming quite the little Silverlight and WPF developer so having a Windows Phone on hand will allow me to tinker and maybe even make some money on the side. Then again, I've done some WP dev and some iPhone dev. It might be time to try some Android dev. |
Ah, so you're Canadian. Well then, I can understand cheering for RIM and wanting them to succeed in the long-term. I do the same for Minnesota businesses and US-based operations in general.
I owned Blackberrys back in the day and loved the devices. Then the iPhone came along and there was no reason to look at BB phones after that point. It's unfortunate that the then-CEO had his head up his ass as far as he did. It's likely that he did irreparable damage to the company by not responding to the iPhone threat quickly enough.

Wow. That sucks. I am glad i did not get a win 7 phone yet. I was planning on it and than upgrading to win 8. No i will just have to wait for a win 8 phone. And for verizon to stock one.

. Anyways, what I've seen of BB10 has been pretty decent. Sure RIM are really late to the modern mobile OS party, and they have an uphill battle at turning around the negative mind-share they have amongst the general public these days (I actually believe it's just about impossible) but competition breeds innovation and RIM has done some good for the industry at some point in time (their keyboards and communication services are still really great and there are quite a few people who have made these things a part of their lives just like countless others have done with Apple's or Google's ecosystems). I love rooting for the little guy (just like I rooted for Palm and the Pre while they were on their way out). WebOS was a great stepping stone in the mobile market. It just never got the traction it deserved due to an absolutely bizarre ad campaign and mismanagement of the company at the time. (Also, I'm aware of RIM not being all that little - but in comparision to Apple, Google and MS who are the other 'big' players in the market, RIM is pretty small)
