Hmm, I'm definitly excited about the South Park RPG if that counts. Though I'm not sure it does, considering it was pretty much the highlight of MS's conference.

DarthVolod said: Dishonored It seems like nobody else really cares about it despite it looking like a rather unique game with (hopefully) good stealth. Is really the only stealth game that will come out this year that I can think of. Will probably not be nearly as good as last year's excellent Deus Ex HR, but it should be a solid title based on what has been shown. |
I have actually been thinking of making one of my infamous unofficial hype threads for the game actually
OT: Probably Divinity: Original Sin for me or maybe Malevolence: The Sword of Ahkranox but my interest in that is more academic than actually wanting to play it.
Also Metro: Last Light is going to be amazing

+4 I picked the first one up for cheap and expected meritocracy but was pleasantly surprised.

Hitman: Absolution! Why aren't people hyped for this game?!?! As for Dishonored. It just like a game where you get to stab a lot of people in the face. |
Hitman: Absolution is an action game at its core with some minor stealth elements tacked on. Based on what the gameplay that has been shown, and what the developers themselves have been saying about the new "action" focus I would say it is about as much a stealth game as Mass Effect 3 is an RPG (that is to say not much of one at all really).
Dishonored is kind of a wild card from a studio that does not have much of a reputation. It seems to mix elments of Bioshock with its art direction and plasmid like abilities and the Thief series with its stealth and steam punk world together which is an awesome combination (especially the Thief part). While the developers said you would be able to play it in a non-stealth fashion (just like the hybrid stealth/shooter of last year, Deus Ex HR) there will be consequences for it, and that is what a game needs to be a stealth game, consequences.
Playing non-stealth in stealth games like Thief, Deus Ex, and the older Hitman games resulted in the game punishing you in a variety of ways ... usually it was a quick death as your character is usually unable to handle a swarm of guards. Hitman: Absolution, however, is encouraging players to take a more action oriented approach with a focus on gunplay while stealth elements are dumbed down so anyone can handle them (you get an ability that lets you see a guard's path as though Agent 47 can predict the future or something).
It is sort of like what happened with the Metal Gear Solid series after MGS 1. MGS never really had a strong emphasis on stealth, but at least in the first game you were somewhat penalized for not being sneaky. In MGS2 and beyond you can pretty mcuh kill guards with impunity and not have to worry so much if the alarm goes off or not. Hitman: Absolution is taking a similiar route by moving away from stealth in favor of action which seems to be the most popular and lucrative genre of this generation.

In the past, it was Gravity Rush (which really exploded as the must own Vita title), Dragon's Dogma, Lollipop Chainsaw, Enslaved, Hunted: The Demon's Forge, Blades of Time, Azura's Wrath, Shadows of the Damned, and a lot of other games that met with varying yet never spectacular levels of success. *edit* looking at the OP, I see Anarchy Reigns is the "related title" for this thread! I was planning on buying this title on day 1 when they used to have a trailer about some blond chick (I think they called her the Ice Princess) running around like she was Bayonetta. It was supposed to come out in February, according to Game Informer but it got pushed back. I don't even know what genre the game is but it's a new IP and it has a hot chick so I'm likely to buy it unless reviews are horrible. |
Anarchy Reigns was supposed to be out in like 2-3 weeks, but like Mad55 said, it was pushed all the way back to Q1 2013. Really a stupid move, since this is a pretty slow time whereas next year is fucking packed - especially Q1. And given that the Japanese version is already completely in English (and Italian, French, German, and Spanish), it really isn't looking good for it to ever be released here. Part of the slow death of Sega of America/Europe, I guess. But basically it's a 3D version of all the crazy beat 'em ups we played as kids. Fucking awesome, in other words, and as I'm not about to wait on Sega's corpse to do a western release, I just went ahead and preordered the Japanese version from Play-Asia. Should be here in a couple of weeks. Thank god the PS3 is region free.
Sometimes I have the feeling nobody give a shit about DMC, but it is one of my most anticipated games in years. It looks awesome, and it will be awesome but it will flop because nobody cares.
The other games are Lords of Shadow 2 and Dishonored and Scivelation

Wait Scivelation is still happening? I remember seeing a trailer for that game like 4 years ago...
