Forums - Sony - Vita will die without a price cut in 2012

Sometimes I think Vita's problem is the price of its games... Yes, I blame AppStore

There won't be any price cut this year guys. Sony as a whole simply cannot afford it (in case of the PS3, other Sony departements were doing well enough to compensate for the huge PS3 losses, now those departements are causing the huge losses).

Sony prefers a weak selling Vita that is profiting over a good selling Vita causing losses. Maybe there'll be a price cut at the end of 2013.

Zero chances of not happening.

How can you explain 10 million vitas sold then?

Either they meant PSP and PSV, which I doubt, or they completely overestimated its selling power. Probably the latter. At launch, I expected 6.5mil this year, and 14mil for the 3DS. The 3DS one still stands, but I've adjusted the Vita one down to 5mil. I think everyone has been taken a bit by surprise at its lack of sales, despite its overall quality.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Vita will probably be getting a $50 cut across all models at Gamescom, even though I think their games need a price cut too.

I don't want to see a $50 portable title ever again and even the $40 games should be $30-$35 at best.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

They said 15 million for Vita and PSP combined

Later they said 10 million Vita and 5 million PSP

Both are quite hard targets... and only a price cut may put Vita close to that.

So, yeah, it's happening and soon.

No, no... Vita won´t die... but Sony must do like Nintendo is doing and bringing exclusive games for it. Vita will eventually finds its own audience, while Sony doesn´t pretend that it´s a "mini-PS3".. must treat Vita as a different product with different pourposes.

There will be no price cut on Vita this year due to the fact that Sony must push the PS3 vs the launch of the Wii U. We'll see a price cut on the PS3, and perhaps even a slimmer model (though unlikely). Sony can't force people to choose between either a Vita or PS3 this holiday, so they can only push one. Nintendo has forced them into this position, which means that the Vita won't see a price cut until sometime next year.

The only way I'm off is if Sony plans to bundle the PS3 and Vita together in order to either match, or come close to, the price of the Wii U (after Nintendo announces).  I just don't see how they could cut the price of that bundle down so far as to be competitive.

And no, the Vita won't die.

I wouldnt mind all that, but damn man, they need a memory card price cut like NOW xD

I wouldn't mind cheaper memory cards either to be honest with you.

I think Sony don't even have a choice here but even a weak selling Vita that is profiting equals (big) losses. I mean it's impossible to make profit when the product sells too slow.

It seems like everybody who is bored here creates a Vita will die Thread :/

If the Vita was doing better, those people probably wouldn't be bored. :P

As I already said, he just stated the obvious it is like saying "I wont get wet if I don´t jump into the water". And there are always blind fanboys who don´t wanna accept that.

I wasn't making a point, I was being funny. Hence the ":P".
