Forums - Sony - Vita will die without a price cut in 2012

Price on HW isn't the problem.

I think that in future will boost, SONY just prefers to sell less and have profit in every unit than go back to take loss in every system. when Vita production cost becomes cheap they drop the price. That's the old strategy that allaways helped Nintendo being profitable in every year

"SONY just prefers to sell less and have profit in every unit "

sorry but that didnt make sense to me...

I think that's the only explanation, if it does not make sence and sony is doing it what do you think that's behind?

And there are the investors, and the maintenance of the Sony Stock, they need to give investors signals of profitability

I don't think the price of the hardware is the problem. I think that the price of the mandatory Memory Cards and the games is the real problem. The 3DS suffers the same problem with the price of the software.

I don't think "Core" gamers have a Problem paying $40 dollars for Gravity Rush, Resident Evil Revelations or Mario Kart 7. But on Amazon forums I have heard time and time again parents talking about buying a "cheap tablet" to buy "cheap games" for their kids, and that one of the cons of the 3DS is the expensive software.

We can say "yes, but those games are crap compared to the games of the PSV and the 3DS" and I agree. But with those $40 a parent can buy at least 20 games on the Android Market or App Store and keep their kids entertained for a long time. I think the price of the software of the dedicated portable gaming systems needs to be revised if they want to survive.

"SONY just prefers to sell less.."

that was the part that didnt make sense to me...
they re selling poorly because of severals factors and thats out of their control right now, at least they are making a (small) profit on each system sold...

The problem is not the price.

$250 for a 5' inch OLED display and a chipset that's basically double what's in the current iPhone (8 cores right?) is a pretty sweet deal actually.

It's the same price the PSP launched at and successfully launched at.

The problem is times have changed and people no longer need a dedicated handheld gaming device outside of Japan where handhelds are replacements for home consoles.

And in Japan, Nintendo basically neutered Sony by taking away the Monster Hunter franchise.

The only market left for dedicated handhelds in the West are kids (primarily young boys), and Nintendo is simply better at getting that audience than Sony ever will be because they have Mario and Pokemon among others. And even kids are gravitating more towards iPads/iOS devices.

After the cost of a 32 gig memory card (barely enough for my needs) and taxes the Vita comes out to about $400 where I live. Personally, the PSP is my all time favorite handhelf but the Vita is way too expensive. I spend about $150 on my first PSP and that was more than enough.

It seems like everybody who is bored here creates a WiiU will fail Thread :/

Fixed.

Seriously, if you think that 'people want to make a "Vita will die" thread', then you are sadly mistaken. People are merely reflecting on the fact that the launch lineup, whilst not lackluster, lacks real heavy-hitting exclusives, or games until the end of the year, and that the sales of the system are much lower than almost any other console at this stages of its life, and that, at this rate, Sony will be lucky to hit 2/3rds of their Vita's FY prediction.

Vita will 'die' is extreme. But Vita will 'struggle' is much more likely.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

hmm the language it's tricky, like just prefers, it's not that it's what they really prefer, it's what they have to deal with, like PS3 they know that in the long run they'll sell.

I don't think it'll die
I think in the west it'll do quite well, with a possibility of doing better than 3DS, I swear.
And the price cut is confirmed by the hardware prospection. It'll happen soon.

But my point of view is clear, if Monster Hunter 4 is released exclusively for the 3DS then japan is lost, or at least it'll need a miracle there - like for example Soul Sacrifice becoming the next MH. It'll be PS2 vs Gamecube again, only this time 10x worse - the cube at this point sold a million and had SSBM, Resident Evil exclusivity, announcents for Mario, Zelda, etc, etc, for example. Vita needs more, way more than: "Hatsune Miku is going to help"
