Forums - Gaming - Can Americans Not Handle The Sight of Their Ancestors Being Killed in Assassin’s Creed?

It's a character in a video game. People need to grow up if they can't handle it.

Everybody knows you're only allowed to kill Russians, Germans, Arabs and Serbs.

Wasn't the last Grand Theft Auto about a Serb killing loads and loads of Americans?

Well, we did do it in an igloo once.

What the hell are you talking about? Every single CoD game is showing Americans getting slaughtered so why is AC3 any different? I think its the British who are but hurt over the fact that connor killing them and not another group of people. I didn't see anyone bitching when Ezio killed spainards or the french or middle eastern people. People are idiots plain and simple and this "controversy" is just another way to prove that.

Why do people always assume I write the articles I post?

CoD games show Americans + British slaughtering Russians mostly. It's always the Russians

The main villain in MW2 was an american army commander and you killed him as well as his entire faction at the end of the game through the hands of 2 British soldiers.

This isn't something that hasn't been done before, but in this game its much more up front about it. Race really should not even be in the question, but rather the player's and the enemy's motives.

But it always has been about fictional characters. Heck, Game of Thrones couldn't even use a G.W. Bush mask on one of their severed heads!

From all the Assasins Creed games I have played, the game has been all about fictional characters, they only try to make the setting somewhat authentic. I don't know much about AC3, I hear Washington is in it. Then again Kennedy was in COD black ops zombies, and in zombies at some point you WILL die because its endless waves. So your point is up in the air.

I say they're just save footing, I'm pretty sure (At least I hope) that the Americans could "handle it".

I don't really understand this move at all.  I think that most Americans who would buy this game could handle it, but, they probably didn't want to be part of some Senator's re-election bid, especially being a French company.  If they were making a game targeted at a younger audience, that might hurt their sales if they were seen to do anything "un-American" as parents may not buy such a game for their kids.  But this is Assassins Creed, any fan of the genre understands what they are getting, Connor isn't going to join one side or the other, you know he is going to kill members of both sides, so why hide that from an audience.  If anything, this move will piss some American gamers off for treating them like dolts.

They "couldn't", and yet they did.

Bad boys, they were. HBO had to apologize for the incidence

I don't see how it's relevant to the discussion at hand. They didn't kill George Bush in the show, they were just caught using his likeness. Publicly fantasizing over the death of a political figure is always going to be controversial. But as many people seemed enthusiastic about it as were offended by it, and the whole controversy had nothing to do with people being offended that an American TV show "killing" an American president because Americans can't stand to see Americans being killed. We kill each other all the time.
