Forums - Nintendo - Iwata: "PSN and Live too far developed for us to catch up"

I don't believe anyone is thinking it will be like the Wii. Only people don't want to hear answers that come off as laziness.

If PSN could catch up to Live throughout a generation, why can't Nintendo catch up to PSN?

But it hasn't fully caught Live. It has not cross-game chat among many other features.

Facts are maybe this is referring to things like cross-game (while actively playing the game) chat and features like Home.

We have no clue. It won't be detailed for a little while longer.

I do think people are over exagerating about many quips coming from Reggie and co.

I love how you don't like it or knock it down when you know nothing about it.

Jesus people, at least wait for the finalized details and big multiplayer games (COD) to come out to prove/show what it will have in place for us.

Yet you say nothing to those who act like everything is going to end up being perfectly fine... Big whoop that we saw some video chat. Now how about some of the features pertaining to online gaming?

Maybe we should just ignore all news and forget what a forum is designed for.

Why should anyone have to wait another 6+ months or so before we can have any sort of discussion? Especially when the CEO himself is answering questions about the topic.

Some people want to get things preordered and paid off in time for a console launch and maybe you forgot that the WiiU isn't very far off and we still don't know shit about it.

They give us no choice but to speculate, especially with answers like these.

It's not our fault, blame Nintendo.

You're saying you dont' like it. don't like what exactly? Everything actually demo'd looks fantastic. Nothing said or demo'd so far should lead anyone to believe it will suck... and 6 months? wtf. You really think it will take to launch day for anything to come out?

Maybe 1 or 2 months max... still months before the console launches.

I don't like the answers we are given.

Nintendo says they can't and won't be able to catch up to PSN or Live. I ask: "Why not?" Sony was able to catch up right? Nintendo had an entire generation to prepare.

They showed video chat, but what about matchmaking? What about cross game invites?

I read about them not mandating achievements and of all the devs in the industry, it is their own who don't want to fully support it.

Remember who they are supposed to be targetting.

I bitched about Vita leading up to launch. I bitched about it after launch. I still bitch about things now.

Did the same for 3DS. I bitched about my PS3. I bitched about my 360. I bitched about my Wii.

If I don't like something, I let it out. I don't just sit around, hold my hands over my ears and eyes and pretend everything is fine and expect that perfect set of information to come my way. I can only work with what is given to me.

PS3 doesn't have cross game chat due to stupid RAM issues (Or so we are told...). Nintendo had plenty of time to prepare for this.

You keep saying people are over exagerrating, but then why are Reggie, Iwata and co. giving these terrible answers?

Because they are not ready to give the details yet. So they give partial answers that don't show their hand.

But you should be able to look at what's arlready shown and pull a basic idea of what should be there from that.

Its just like the damn friend code issue. They used the bad phrase that FCs are still there in a different from and people blew it out of proportion without actually thinking. All you have to do is watch the one video from pre-E3 to understand how different it really is and how modern of a system it really is. Sure Nintendo should of simply said no FCs are not there. We have a new system. Intead they like the stupid name and stuck with it and now people think they have some long code vs the usernames that were clearly shown in the videos with the clear capability to instantly make new friends and invite them to, at least for now, chats and video calls. Is it really much a stretch to think it will also be used to invite to play games? Hell you could do that with EA games on Wii.

This is just Nintendo being lazy. It's not like basic online functions is some hidden technology or anything.

I think this needs a little more context.
But my guess is he refers more to the content of the service rather than infrastructure.

Hell, its even going to have mobile OS integration for community features and buying games to download on WiiU. These are features Live/PSN just got not too long ago.

It will be robust and perfectly fine. I really think they are referring to niche features like Home or being able to play the actual games on phones or PCs in the case of MS.

I am going by what has already been shown and answered and formed a basic idea.

As I said, I can only go by what information I am given.

Of course it can change down the road, but right now it is what it is and I decide to try and make discussion about it. So if you saw things differently and maybe saw something I did not, please go ahead and inform me. That is the purpose of the forums here.

I didn't expect it to instead turn into me being labeled a Sony fanboy or to be told it is too early to have discussions.

Anyways, gotta go for a bit. Will return to see where this leads and see if maybe I learn something new.

can you blame Nintendo for not putting an enormous effort to catch up?
if they did you would bash them for playing catch up...
