Can you blame them?
Strictly in the last 2 or 3 years, look at what's been copied.

Ninty announces a Vitality Sensor, Ubisoft bit and unveiled their own corny version.
Ninty says they'll have TV-Controller streaming, and MS comes out with Smartglass. Sony begins championing PS3-PSP cross-platform play. Also, Iwata blurted out he wanted Smash Bros with WiiU-3DS connectivity...and Sony drops Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale?

Gimme a break guys.

lol i love those comments... and what ninty copied dreamcast for their pad concept idea and MS too for the XBlive

come on people be real for a second..... fitness for casual was something a 6 grader with cerebral polsy could have found out dance games too..... after all the market of fitness DVDs is booming gimmicks for sport enthousiast outside the gym are popping everywhere nike+ and apple have been all over that crap for a decade even more..... zuba dance classes have poped up before motion fitness dance game went main stream.... salsa dance gym class were famous 15 years ago.... so something aimed at casual not jumping on that would have just been a beginers failure..... not a great idea nobody thought off....

and smart glass a copy of the idea of nintendo.... same here come on people we are talking about MS the biggest OS company in the world for the past 30 years almost..... the only reason they went in the console business in the first place is to accomplish what smartglass win8 will accomplish.... they want to counter android apple over anything sony or nintendo.... they are merely following their historic customer base where they consume media and ellectronic.... we have known for years that win8 will be cross platform and the idea was to integrate XBox in the mix.... I have said things like that as early as 2005 at the 360 launch.... that they will eventually have their entire windows park interacting with each other.... no new great idea here...

I am not downgrading WiiU future accomplishement and nintendo's creativity.... but comme on people anybody seriously believing that something that motion sensing and dance games/fitness was a great ninty idea and not just logical..... or who thinks MS intention weren't to have a streamlined ecosystem accross all their platform are just lieing to themselves....really bad fan boys....

what ninty was brilliant at... was to do it before everybody else in a really cheap easy to use form factor accessible to people from 4 to 99 years old with no big huge lerning curve and I admitadely thought their success with the Wii would cave in way earlier.... now I believe WiiU won't have the same succes at start than the WiiU did..... and probably lower life time sales too.... but I also think we will have a harsher competition accross all three platform and this gen will be a new turning point in the VG market....

Long live the console war.... I mean I'm mostly a XB fan people know that and i don't hide it.... but historically speaking I'm born and raised ninty and sega quite equaly I hate Sony but I'll admit they have put the VG industry in mainstrean entertainement field with the PS2 and having a DVD player..... anyway I think that each brand has its place and as long as we will have a three way fight customer will be able to enjoy more goodies than ever before whatever their heart lays and that in itself is great.....oh and btw I use to hate MS in the 90's ut now apple is the new MS of the 21st century.... roting the ecosytem from the inside... ripping off the free world more than MS ever did in their worst hour

Funny thing is people actually believe this PR nonsense from Nintendo smh. I swear their PR reminds me of an Apple commercial.

Nintendo's always been a more secretive company when it comes to unveiling their games, so it doesn't surprise me at all that they want to be even more secretive when both of their competitors are looking to announce new hardware before the end of E3 2013.

Good point, but Nintendo are hardly threatened by that.

Come on people, be real for a second: fitness for casual gamers was something a 6th grader with cerebral palsy could have found out. The same for dance games too. After all the market for fitness DVDs is booming, gimmicks for sport enthusiasts outside the gym are popping up everywhere, and nike+ and apple have been all over that crap for a decade or even more. Zumba dance classes  popped up before motion fitness and dance games went mainstream; salsa dance gym class was famous 15 years ago. Something aimed at casual that was not jumping on that would have just been a beginner's failure, not a great idea nobody thought of.

Compare. Fixed spelling, grammar, removed all ellipses (that is not how sentences work), and added linking words so it reads smoothly.

I'm sure they have something or the other to reveal for the wiiu for certain..I mean if it's just the current line up it would suck imho. I do have a bad feeling that 'trump card' might be something to do with Black Ops tho.

My opinion was more aimed at the way put things into working in their PR statements. Even this, let's be real here. If it's something that can be used draw in crowds, the competition will follow. Same applies to Nintendo as well. having few months of difference between the reveals is not going to make much of a difference. It sure as hell ain't the real reason. If they said they are holding back to get a bigger hype train going closer to launch or something then I would agree 100%.

wii sports had many ripoffs

Yes, afterwards. It wouldn't have hurt them to say exactly what they were going to do BEFORE launch, as this article argues.

zelda had many ripoffs
mario games

Not more recently than the early 90s.Just being a platformer or sword-wielding is not enough, it has to be trying to copy a Mario game. Name some.

Fez was sort of a copy of Super Paper Mario, if that counts.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

I would doubt that this is their reasoning, but obviously there are quite a few Wii U games in development

The theory i subscribe to is that Nintendo is trying to avoid getting caught with its pants down in a Duke Nukem Forever/ The Last Guardian/ Final Fantasy Versus XIII scenario, but taking the strategy to its unfortunate other extreme: deny its existence unless its coming out in six months or less...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo might be worried for the following reasons:

1) S&M creating new hardware revisions based on what the Wii U is capable of. The longer Nintendo holds out on releasing that new information, the less likely their competitors are to do a good job incorporating a similar thing into their hardware, assuming it's a good innovation.

2) As far as software goes: Nintendo can't stop people from copying their game design. By holding out on information, though, they can prevent competition from creating clones and releasing them within a certain time-frame of Nintendo's release, preventing them from crowding the market with clones around Nintendo's game.

Those two points may not happen to extreme conditions (I doubt many developers are actively thinking "oh! Let's see what Nintendo is up to..and copy them fast!") but it does happen in more subtle ways. I think that's what they're trying to prevent.

I understand the worry of BLOPS2 being part of Nintendo's big reveal plan this summer, but realistically I think it's taking a second-seat to the real show: The Nintendo Network. You can bet BLOPS2 will be there, but I think (I hope) it will be used as merely a title in a list of games, not the big showcasing of the NNetwork. On that similar topic, I wonder how much Activision is going to:

1) Tout the Wii U BLOPS2 version as the best version

2) Advertise it regularly amongst the PS3+360 version

3) Shove it under the covers and release it more incognito like the Wii versions.

see I disagree with the two points you made

1. the WiiU is coming out in a few months.. the other two aren't. We still don't even know when they are coming out but I doubt we will see them at least until end of '13 or maybe early '14. Sony already has a solid line up for next year (at least until the fall season). Mere months won't change the situation for Nintendo. The competition will change or adapt (IF needed). That's an issue Nintendo will face no matter what since they are going first into next gen and especially since the other two doesn't seem to be in a hurry to do so. And let's be honest here, hardware wise, I'm sure both sony and ms have a good idea of what WiiU is capable of by now. (I'm referring to power etc here, not software or applications)

2. this brings us to features. These are the things the competition will keep an eye on the most (outside of things like price). But again, for a first party dev team, implimenting such ideas into their games or apps really won't take more than a few months. Again just keeping this secret for like a month or two is not going to make a difference. TBH feature wise I actually expect nintendo to take ideas from sony and MS, especially when it comes to their onlline.

hmm as for BO2, I'm certain activision has a deal with MS for exclusive marketing. It seemed that they renewed their DLC contract with them so I really wouldn't be surprised if they do the same for marketing like previous years. If I had to guess, outside of COD, GTA will make the biggest splash so maybe we will hear some sort of a deal there. Ninty does have a good chunk of money on them right? A deal with R* could go a long long way

I also wouldn't be surprised to see a teaser for a game like Zelda or Smash bros. to hype the crowd up. I really don't know how much they can do with their Nintendo Network to set themselves apart, and especially above, the competition.
