My point is if the next gen consoles aren't a significant step up from their previous gen counterparts, then why spend so much time to market and release a new console?

People have to stop comparing the Wii U to the PS360 for a second and see that it is quite a significant jump from the Wii in terms of hardware. I wouldn't expect the PS4/720 to make a jump of a similar magnitude since they are dealing with much more up to date technology than the Wii U, but I would at least imagine the consoles will be able to do something a bit more than native 1080p at 60 FPS standard.

Plus you have to imagine, the new consoles will probably have a lifecycle of around another 10 years, so they have to be relevant in the market for that long with future proof tech, while the Wii U will only be relevant for about 5 years.

I guess he truly was talking about power, but I still believe the PS4 will not be a powerhouse like the PS3 was, but there is also the fact that the system will probably launch 1 or 2 years after the Wii U, so who knows...

I voted for Wii U. Why? Blind irrational fanboyism is why. But at least I'm honest about it.

For reference: X360 = 1.0 and PS3 ~ 1.25

Wii U = 1.5-2 (achieved by using a modern but weak and cheap DX10 GPU).

X720 = 10 (achieved by using an equivalent to the Radeon 7850, heavily modified of course)

PS4 = 12 (Sony will make sure that the PS4 is slightly stronger than the X720, and it can be done for relatively cheap).

720 is going to have a bigger focus on a powerful kinect 2. (and still wont have any good hardcore gamezz for Kinect2)

PS4 is going to focus on a bunch of shit no one wants and sony will say they did it for the gamers.

Wii U will have a Mario game or 2, ill bet.

according to VGC, PS3 has outsold 360 in 4 out of the last 5 years.


Now if they're launched at the same time, I think PS4 wins.

Sony has built up a nice stable of IPs (GOW, Uncharted, GT, LBP, KZ, InFamous, Last of Us) and will surely have some new ones ready for next gen as well.

Have you seen Sony's stocks and company? They won't have the leverage to make an uber powerful console and it is evident that they don't want another ps3 fiasco and they hinted that they did fine when they were not the most powerful console.PS1 was "weaker" than n64 and Saturn. It won handily. The PS2 was "weaker" than XB1 and GC. It won. PS3 "most powerful" supposedly but it's in last place. Only you guys care about "power". They care about making money so, no, they won't be powerful as X720. If any thing they will go mid range. They wont use cell. No one wants the burden of having to program even more complex titles using it. Sorry.

Look for MS to be more powerful and look for them to start putting a foothold in the casual market and hardcore with the more powerful rig and the best developmet tools as usual. And more kinect crap....maybe we will get the real natal this time...
