Forums - Gaming - What real 'next gen' is there actually in the Wii U...?!

If your talking from a pure graphical stand point then it's not really fair at this point to fully judge the system. I do think that the controller is very unique and innovative and has potential to really add to the future of video games. At the end of the day the experiences are what will drive the console and hopefully Nintendo will be able to deliver on that point. I was in Nintendo rage all morning on Tuesday, not because of the graphics of their machine, but rather the lack of games they showed.

Sentences in bold, that's where I am bringing my viewpoints upon.

The WiiU is certainly closer in power to the other consoles than a high spec'd PC so is it any surprise that the first batch of games, which undoubtedly use the same assets as the other console versions, don't look drastically different.

I'm not expecting miracles with the Wii U but i don't doubt that we will end up getting games that look much better. I'm not going to claim this comparison is scientific in any way (getting similar kind of screen shots was next to impossible) but I think people have forgotten how far the PS3 and 360 have come.

Xbox 360 then and now.

It is not 1080p, maybe no too next-gen... But the game looks amazing, and just think of the possibilities... The next zelda, metroid, star fox, fzero...

Valid post, but still then where are the IPs or atleast the tech demos, that could've boasted atleast the type of games in the early launch phase?

Guess it depends on what your definition of "next gen" is. For my money, next gen is a brand new console with brand new games and features, with improved hardware. So yeah, WiiU is "next gen."

I don't know what people expect to see out of Sony and MS's next consoles. I have a feeling they are going to be dissapointed. After all, how much better can graphics get at this point? Even if MS and Sony have improved graphics from Wii U, I can't possbily see them being much better to the point of being obviously noticable, and justifying $400 + new controllers/accessories. I see it being more like the Xbox 360 to PS3 comparison.

I thought this E3, we would see some stunning new IPs on the Ninty's new hardware, but none. C'mon we were just introduced to a bunch of games that is set to release across all platforms and 720p standard gameplay FPS. And yet a game like Watch Dog's release on the platform is still to get the confirmation.

Was Zombi U and this Wii pad hacking(LOL) in Batman Arkham city http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/06/05/batman-arkham-city-wii-u-hacking-gameplay-e3-2012 worth being so called next gen elements?

It is the next gen of nintendo platforms. And define next gen? 1080p games that run at 60 fps? Because some games this gen can do that. I saw the ur4 demo video it looked better than this gen but how do you define what I saw. Because past 1080p and 60fps I am not seeing the big jump.

That would be the "U" bit, that's what makes it next-gen ;)

How readily people seem to neglect the fact that this device has 3x the memory of either PS3 or 360. Let's only look at the numbers that make the system look bad

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

When Mario Galaxy came out it looked on par with any Xbox or Ps3 game on the market at the time. Even the early tech demo of Zelda looks better then most PS3 title now. I guarantee that by the time PS4 comes out Nintendo games will be looking just as good as early next gen titles.

u got to be kidding rightu cant b serious u are telling me that mario galaxy look just azz good azz gears of war or call of duty  or even kill zone or god of war mater of fact metal gear lmao!!!!!!!!!!
