Forums - Sony - Playstation 4 will release in 2014 because...(what do you think?)

Will they release the console

2013 37 38.54%

early/mid 2014 23 23.96%

late 2014 30 31.25%

2015 6 6.25%

Total:96

Actually I think it became fairly obvious that both MS and Sony's E3 was an off season since both will announce their next gen consoles the next time they come to LA. PS4 will very likely release by the end of 2013 just like the next Xbox.

Sony did not say jack about a PS4 this year.
I doubt they will announce it at next year's E3 and then have it ready for that following holiday.

Also, I haven't seen them lose too much on R&D recently...but rather on other things. When they do, I'll know its time.

2014 is the date I expect PS4 to release. Mainly due to the problems the company is experiencing. Even though their gaming division is profitable I don't think Sony has the cash to develop and ship a PS4 next year.

I've heard this a couple of times, is there any proof or is it just speculation? Where do they lose money then?

Sony have been making money on each system sold for a while now, that on top of the software sales and other paid services on the system such as Netflix and PS+, they must be making a healthy profit. Will it make up for the billions lost pre-2010? No, it they are now making money with Playstation. PSV should be just about breaking even or taking a small loss, software sales will make up for that and other costs such as R&D will be covered in 3 years according to Mr. Kaz Hirai.

Sony Bravia is a sickhole for Sony's funds, as was PS3 (was), and they're still making up for that, among other things.

I dont think their even is a gaming division guys...

The division Playstation is in...had quite a significant loss in the most recently released financials. Sony even made special mention of the price cut attributing to the loss. This makes me wonder if the PS3 is still sold at a loss after last years cut....

That being said, im pretty sure the division did see a profit the previous financial year.

Bottom line: Sony should not have cut the price last year...they were in no position to do it. PS3 had good momentum going last year, and would have sold relatively well even without a cut. But this year..the momentum is slowing down..and Sony quite literally can't aford to cut. Silly decisions made at the wrong time.

I'm also thinking with all the latest rumours going around...yet no word on PS4 at all at E3..im thinking maybe sony is rethinking their strategy with the PS4. Maybe they reliase now just how important the PS4 will be to them.

I really dont know man, its hard to predict at this point. But I'm betting my money that Nextbox and PS4 will both launch around November 2013, if not then Q1 2014, a Holiday 2014 release will be toooooo late, 2 years later then WiiU.

Also I think that PS4 will be revealed around february 2013, kinda like how PSVITA was unveiled in january 2011.

yeh i agree, i honiestly beleave Sony are going to go on guns blazing next gen. a nice price point that competative (still alot $349/399) but launch with games like Uncharted 4, Gran Turismo 6 & Killzone 4. if People go mad a Ps4 takes off in US like PS2 did.. MS are fooked. Sony cant afford to loose and will play every card they can.

Ms will release at a good price point too but i cant see what they are going to have for launch if they move in 2013? Halo4 is coming the end of this year and as far as im aware there new Halo studio will focus on them from now on. they wont be able to turn a Halo out in 1 year? Gears is coming for 360 in early 2013. again no gear for Xbox Loop/8 launch. Fable? Forza? again this year! (maybe Fable 4 can make it?) they only 100% tital they have at this point is Project Gothem Racing 5  (is it 5 next?). Thats why i think MS are actully going to let Sony go first in 2013 early 14 and announce the Xbox Loop/8/720 when the PS4 launches to try and combat and release Holiday 2014 with Halo 5.

again thought With a large amount of heavy hitting games at launch for every region.. Sony could really take it all for themselfs

Personally, i dont see any of the big 3 dominating next gen. Competition is way to strong within the 3...and not to mention competition from outside factors...like smartphones, tablets, cloud gaming etc.
