Problem is I don't think consumers' wallets are ready.

Looking at these screen shots, I think SE is overshooting themselves with this demo. There is no way next-gen will be able to produce visuals at this level. 4GB of RAM doesn't seem like enough to produce these visuals, let alone 8GB of RAM. When you have a screen shot like this--

--it's really hard to believe that all those hairs on his face could be rendered in real-time. It's too hard for me to believe that this is next-gen tech at work and that it will run on the PS4 or Next-Box. I'm not gonna believe it until I see it.
I don't know why people tell me to get a life. I'm a gamer, I have lots of lives!
Well Square-Enix, at the rate they make games, probably expects to release it a few generations from now. :P

One side is real, the other side is rendered by their Luminous engine. Can you tell the difference?

I'm saying the engine may be capable of rendering those scenes in real-time, but I don't think next-gen consoles will be able to handle the visual fidelity that was displayed. It's the same thing with Unreal Engine 3. Early tech demos shown that what we got this gen was close to the targets, but this doesn't even seem like it'll be possible on next-gen hardware.
Again, the engine may be able to render these shots in real time, but I'd be really surprised if next-gen consoles will allow it to do so without some kinda downgrade in graphics.

You are right in thinking that. It is ultimately up to Sony and Microsoft and how high they want to set the bar, visually. But we've seen what developers could pull off with current gen technology, so you never know. I'm thinking we won't see a huge jump for next gen, as compared to this gen from last gen, but I'm always up for surprises.
Square Enix is full of shit.
That is all.
We will see something of this standard in ~10 years guys.

This is running on a PS4. You heard it here first ;)
Dissappointed, Final Fantasy is not about graphical prowess, I and many long standing fans have been saying this for a long time. No matter how beautiful it may look, if the story and plot sucks, the whole game sucks. Sakaguchi was writing compelling and dramatic stories in his FF games. Now its about "teh CGIs"
