They said its not like Pikmin. But I thought it seemed a lot like Pikmin.

It's platinum so it will inevitably be amazing. However for things to show at E3 this is not what Nintendo should have had platinum work on. All it will do is reinforce the idea that there are no core games, it's not 'mature' etc etc. Had Platinum shown something in the Bayonetta/Vanquish style then it would have played out far better at E3.

Oh right, this is that game a lot of people thought would be a new Viewtiful Joe since the image of the protagonist had leaked. Not sure what to think of the gameplay.

Seems more about the action than Pikmin. Pikmin the key is that the Pikmin can't do much, so it's how you manage them that counts, whereas this seems to have a lot more options and abilities for combat with less focus on management.
