"Batman and Gears of War are made by different developers, and are different genres. Both LoU and Uncharted are cover based shooters with very similar shooting mechanics and only differ in health, ammo, and story (atmosphere, etc).o
The Last of Us is not a cover-based shooter. Shooting is a much smaller element in th The Last of Us. And how do they have similar shooting mechanics? Because they both aim & shoot? It doesn't matter anyway because you won't be doing a lot of shooting in TLoU.
"But Uncharted and TLoU have the same core gameplay. The shooting, cover, running system all look the same. I admit TLoU looks very different from Uncharted, but it's not that different, not different enough to put it in the same category as Beyond, as opposed to Halo (new dev) and Pikmin 3."
No, the cover don't look the same. Uncharted uses a sticky cover, meaning you press a button and Nathan sticks his back to cover, you press the button again to get off cover. In TLoU, Joel doesn't seem to use sticky cover, it doesn't look like you need to press a button to stick to cover. Joel dynamically hides behind cover whenever he's near it AND he doesn't put his back to the cover. The only similarity in over is the fact that they both take cover. Simply having a cover system is too vague to draw any similarities.
The running system looks the same? Since when does running have to do with being a part of the core gameplay? Not to mention Uncharted singeplayer never even had a sprint button. TLoU there will be a sprint button. Again, like the cover system, the only similarity in running is the fact that they are running. This is too vague to draw any comparisons.
And about the shooting. 1.) Shooting won't be that prevalent in TLoU. 2.) Nearly every third-person shooter on the PS3 has similar shooting mechanics: Press L1 - zoom in/aim. Press R1 - Shoot. Those are the only similarities Uncharted & TLoU seem to have.
So this is your support that TLoU plays a lot like Uncharted:
1.) they both have cover systems. This is really too vague to draw any comparisons. You could say the same about Gears of War & Hitman
2.) They have similar running. This is false as Uncharted doesn't even have a sprint button. There only similarities are the fact that the character can run. This is too vague to draw any comparisons. You could say the same about any game where the character runs.
3.) They have similar shooting. The similarities in shooting between TLoU & Uncharted are as close as the similarites in shooting between any third-person shooters. This is too vague to draw any comparisons. You could say the same about any tps.
"You only say this when I say anything "bad" about PS3. What I said wasn't even negative."
Please give examples or stop spouting bullshit. I only confront you when I feel your wrong. Stop being overly-defensive and stay on point. Everything I've said to you focused strictly on the TLoU & Uncharted. Please don't mention company allegience or anything like that because it's off-topic and stupid.
I'll say this again.
Uncharted = shootouts consisting of killing dozens of enemies at a time, going against insane odds, having supernatural rehealing abilities, doing crazy jumps, platforming, with the occasional stealth.
The Last Of Us = Rarely shooting, being very evenly matched with enemies, yet still vaulnerable, having the option to go through a level without killing anyone.
And you say it plays (a lot) like Uncharted because: they both have cover systems; you can run in both of them; and they both allow you to shoot from a third-person angle.
You are wrong.
