will the slide of the euro cause sony to have to restate earnings forecasts to a loss this year? in the past sony has blamed the high yen and low dollar/euro as being a large contributing factor to earning projections restatements and turning profitable quarters into losses.
with the sudden slide of the euro in the last month and most likely continued degradation combined with sony historically having higher sales in europe will this move sony into another year long loss? the euro has dropped to a 22~ month low recently (it rebounded .006 or so this morning) and with the political turmoil i do not see a change in its movement in the short term.
I would guess this also has to eventually hit sales of goods in the region as well if the loss continues, or starts a bank run as seems to be feared will happen. people will spend less on luxuries choosing to focus on essentials or moving funds into perceived safe havens as a just in case measure.
will sony try to drum up sales in other markets focusing on less developed regions at the expense of the EU & USA?
I also think this pretty much puts the idea of any price cut in the EU to pasture, and could cause a price hike if prices further deteriorate.
for now the dollar has not slid off that far this year, sony could align there but without he fall election uncertainty could cause it to slide (though i doubt obama will lose)
current rate 1 euro buys 100.102 yen 52
week high 1 to 117.655 5
2 week low 1 to 97.25

*note i was unsure if this should go in sales or here, but i thought here would be better due to the forums focus on sony and this not really being about thhough could could effect sales.
