I couldn't hear the last two, and I'm 22. I guess always listening to headphones has damaged my ears for some reason. But like another poster said, I don't see how it's a big deal not hearing these super high frequencies. We'll never hear them in nature, so I don't see how not hearing these high frequencies affects are ability to clearly hear lower frequencies.

My paranoia has trained me to achieve a great sense of hearing. I heard it all. At times, not sober helps in perception as well

Yeah, they are probably bad. I initially thought that I could only hear the last sound with one ear, but then I swapped earphones and my other ear couldn't hear it.

Edit: After further investigation; nope. One of my ears is fucked :(

The ears are actually designed to filter out the higher frequencies - especially with age. However, if you press you speaker to your jaw you can often hear higher. People having ultrasound teeth cleaning can sometimes hear much higher because the sound is going into their jaws.

Maybe because the thing they had to worry about made the lower sounds - so their might have been an evolutionary advantage.

I heard up to 15kHz (despite being over 40), but both my phones and my speakers are crappy, when the 17.4 kHz sound was played they clicked. During night I can hear not only mosquitoes but even smaller and peskier sandflies buzzing near my ears, looking for the right place to bite.
