Forums - Sales - Media Create Sales: Week 20; May 14 - May 20

I wouldn't count on 200k for Persona too, but I admit it's interesting to watch, who knows?

I said it before, it's feasible because it looks like it's the game they have to sustain sales. It's in a way (quite distant way) Vita's Mario Kart, the game that every new user will buy for quite some time. Not the perfect candidate (and not sure if it'll work out) but it's what they have. I woundn't be surprised if this game has some good legs, which is uncommon for Persona games.

200K first week seems absurdly optimistic to me, unless the Vita userbase has already largely absorbed fans of the new Persona games. On the flipside, I know there's some kind of anime tie-in.

Preorders look excellent with retailers saying that they are double that of Persona 4 on ps2 (which debuted at 200k). So I don't see a 200k being absurdley optimistic. Optimistic yes, but reasonably so. And I obviously expect it to move a lot of hardware.

They said it was double Persona 3, not 4.

the 3ds is a beast in Japan.

3DS will be boosted a lot in all those categories in a short time, thankfully - never going to reach DS levels, though

First party: Mario, Animal Crossing, even Luigi's Mansion will help a bit
Third Party: DQ and Monster Hunter (among others)

I have a feeling that due to pokemon (both bw2 and conquest), DS will sell more software than Vita this year. Merits to pokemon or demerits to Vita?

De-merit to Vita, I'd say.

Yeesh. This might help explain the Vita's difficulties going forward.

Not sure what you are trying to say. That's basically three weeks worth of sales for the PSV compared to a full year for the PSP.

Well, you're right, but this trend continues for 2012 and shall continue for a while a least. Only first party titles Vita seens to have an advantage, but this is expected, as there are simply no first party PSP games anymore.

I'm looking at the proportions of first-to-third party stuff. Not surprisingly, both systems rely extremely heavily on third-parties. The PSP makes it clear that this was the case for that system from start to finish. This makes turning the Vita around even harder for Sony, since third parties don't appear to be lining up to do its job for it.

Basicallay, if their strategy is to increase sales using better first-party support (i.e. the kind they can most directly control), they've got an even steeper trek than I'd thought.
