Forums - General - Should I Move To America When I'm Older?

Personally Obama freaking. Going to go for my Masters in Entertainment Business Management. But all the jobs are in Montréal or Toronto. Or God forbid Redmond Washington and the Silicon Valley. If I go into film my options are Las Angeles, Toronto or a small amount of work left in Vancouver.

I'm going to try and avoid America for obvious reasons. But I don't know a lick of French. I barely passed French in grade 9. Don't remember anything except counting to ten and introducing myself. Also the BC lower mainland barely gets snow our winters are fairly warm. But Montréal turns into a frozen wonderland snow storms out the ying Yang. Toronto isn't much better.

So I'll have to give up my warmer winters and learn a little French.....Aaaaahhhhhh!!!

Try Montreal. It has a strong focus on both French and English, so it has that kind of European feel. The people are very socialist and liberal, and there is a big artist and gaming scene there. Yearly, there are multiple festivals including the International Jazz Festival, the Formula 1, Igloofest, Les Fêtes Gourmandes, Le Festival de la Bière, and much much more.

It is a very happening city, with alot of very beautiful girls from all over the world. Ubisoft has one of its main offices there (The makers of Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed).

In the summer is when the city comes alive, it can get dull during wintertime. During summer, every sunday, there is an event on the central mountain (le mont-royal) where people bring tam-tams and play to the beat all together (in the 50s of people). You have people who play haki, soccer, juggling, just people relaxing.

Summertime is really happening in Montreal.

Other than that, I know that Toronto is a hub for some of the most important activities in canada, like TV show shooting, TV News offices, but from what I saw Toronto is a very busy city. However, it has lots of Galas that are more up-scale than Montreal's, like Movie Galas and such.

Vancouver has it all: mountains, water, city life. It would be my next suggestion after Montreal. In the end, it all depends on what you're looking for.

New England is a beautiful area, I personally live in Fredericton (just north of Maine), and though it can get quiet here, it is also peaceful at the same time. I'm not so familiar with the states of New England, but I think there's a similar vibe down there where everything is just going okay and the weather is not too bad.

Isn't it compulsory for French to be diSplayed under English in Ontario?

do you have an accent? girls over here will be lining up to go down on you if yes.

Yep, in fact when I went to Canada last year girls were all over my accent.

You'll be a Man Whore. Even when I mentioned that I was of British Decent girl's went crazy. They must be taught at a young age over here that "a British Man is the Perfect Man."

i could be wrong but i've always thought that the beatles are largely to blame/thank for that.

JC7 is making it sound worse than it is. He is right, though, that Canada is much prettier and a better place to live but USA isn't some crap hole full of immigrants. USA has some beautiful parts in it, you just have to look. (Like that one picture I posted before.)

It looks wonderful! And my name is Rowan.

This is the Formula 1 period in Montreal, I think that's crescent street:

What age would you want to be when you moved? Looking at your profile you're several years off at the earliest. You also need to have a plan of how you are going to support yourself as moving between countries is a lot different than moving between cities in the same country. Personally don't think the New England area would be a bad part of America to move to. Bonus of having two football (soccer) teams relatively close by, although don't know how important that would be to you.

Then you have to put up with TV stereotypes. Apparently Canada sucks, although I've never got that impression when I've been there. But then on TV all 'British' people have crooked teeth and resemble aristocrats and have these bizarre accents. Never heard anyone who is actually from the UK talk like that in my entire life.
