Spending a lot of money does not (necessarily) make a game any better ...

Suppose for a minute that Killzone 2 is (pretty much) exactly like Killzone except it has (very expensive) pretty graphics; in other words it plays like a pretty average game from 2004, which means it is a sub-par game of 2008. Would that make it a good game?

In contrast suppose that someone released a game which was far beyond what anyone had played before but retained the (inexpensive) PS2 graphics. Would that be a bad game?

The target render that was originally shown has now been exceeded in nearly all aspects. Provided there is depth and good gameplay, this game should be one of the best games of 08. It will look better than anything we have seen so far, I just hope it plays better as well. LAIR was a very good game aside from the controls. It was one of the best looking games as well. The framerate wasnt perfect, but I think the goal was a little high for a first gen game. Between Resistance2, KZ2 and HAZE, I think the PS3 has the FPS on lock-down for 08.

As for mentioning LAIR, it deserves to be mentioned. If KZ2 follows suit then it will suffer the same fate. A great looking game with poor gameplay.

 

KZ2 has however already surpassed most aspects of the original CG presentation. There are areas that it doesnt come close such as the fire, but the last any of us have seen form the game was months ago. They could have ironed out those issues as well.

 While franchises going from medocre to genre-defining doesn't happen often, it DOES happen.  Biggest example I can think of is Street Fighter and its follow up Street Fighter II.

I do feel that Killzone 2 is overhyped, though.  Not quite Halo levels of hype, but close.

 Tell me this is a joke post please. I would bet that the game doesn't even have the best graphics of 2008. If you managed to port it perfectly. and managed to by some miracle preserve every aspect of the game (including screen resolution and all graphical whatnots and length and online experience) it could not win GOTY on any platform. RFOM2 will kill this franchise once and for all.

Because it's going to be a mega blockbuster hit....where have you been pal? You see any of the vids, hear the info...crawled out from underneath your rock, located somewhere underneath a bridge.... lol.

IF Resistance is coming in 2008, they will most likely delay killzone2 for a little while...no complaints though, if they need more time to make it, more power to em...it's only going to end up being that much better.

Btw..I wasn't even aware that IGN played it, was it in depth...because I sort of recall something from IGN but it wasn't much info...im gonna check it right now.

going by what your saying that means too human with a budget of 80-100 million should be the best game ever

I have heard a thousand games be promised as megablockbuster hits. I have heard a thousand games promise to redefine the genre and kill the top dog once and for all. Not many ever manage to actually live up to their claims though. The ones that do seem to redefine genres do it quietly, and definitively. We have no concrete proof that Killzone 2 will be a blockbuster. We have promises from a studio that failed to deliver on the exact same promises the last time they tried. I would love to be wrong, but I have yet to see proof of it.
