Forums - Gaming - Honestly, why is Killzone 2 so highly hyped?

I feel sorry for Resistance 2. It's a game being made by quality developers, with features never before seen in an FPS, and it's being overlooked for this game by a complete trash developer that's shown us nothing unique and nothing but some pretty (now outdated) graphics. This is really sad.

If you're bringing reviews into it then you are already making a mistake IMO. For me Killzone was a good, fun game. I like it. Killzone 2 looks like it could be even better. The best way to judge a game is to play it for yourself. When reading comments and reviews about games you have to really try and decipher whether that person is a fanboy, liar, troll (edit) or just being objective. I'm sure there are people who talk bad about games they've never played and just say something negative to go along with what is or what they believe is popular opinion. The hype comes just because it's something people are interested in and they like the things they've seen, read or heard. It's no indication of whether it's good or bad. If you don't understand the hype, that's fine. It's just not for you then.

The reason Killzone 2 will be mediocre at best is because all of their games have been mediocre at best.
It`s not a reason, it`s just you opinion.

I will repeat again:
what you don`t like about Killzone 2 itself. What bad info you read or saw about that game?

Believe it or not, R&C commercials are STILL running every now and then.

The only thing killzone 2 has going for it consist of graphics and hype. And more hype revolving around graphics. From what little I've heard of Resistance 2 in like the 48 hours its been revealed, it sounds like it's going to be a MUCH better game than Killzone 2.

Every now and then? I see them all the time, same with uncharted and the regular PS3 adds. PS3's really stepped up it's marketing budget. I see more of any one of those commercials than I see Wii or 360 commercials.

But yeah. It's hyped so much because it's rumored to cost anywhere between 2 and 3 times the price of your average blockbuster triple A budget.

Throw in advertising, and it's obvious Sony doesn't want to make money they want to turn Killzone into it's Halo or Mario.

I couldn't even imagine how much they'd have to sell to make back their money.

Sony obviously saw something in GG, and with all the contacts they now have being first party, and their major budget, I think they have a pretty good shot at delivering with KZ2. There has to be some reason Sony is risking so much with GG, when they have Insomniac and Resistance sitting right next to 'em.

Oh I agree, but I think with the rumored budget. (40 million or so is the low end i've heard quoted.) Combined with a likely massive advertising blitz i think it'd have to be a multi-million seller to break even.

This one will likely be one of the more expensive games in history. (Likely being a lot better since i believe the other more expensive games of history were as such because of massive delays.)

Wow alot of you talking alot of shit...suddenly Resistance2 is 100% destined to be better then Killzone2? The previews so far point to Great...and you sit here and tell us it's "bad"?....what dou you guys know that we dont, oh yeah..absolutely NOTHING lol. So much for that argument.

Sony has seen huge success with their unproven ips...you think Killzone2 (with the amount of effort put in/being a direct sequel with past mistakes corrected) will somehow be "bad"...living in your own worlds fanboys, living in your OWN world. Lol.

naznatips..you should be ashamed, you sound stupid with your fanboy cry rant lol. Waaaaaa'.

Its highly hyped cause its gonna be amazing. The first one was fun as hell even though it had its share of problems, but honestly which games don't have at least a couple problems to start with?

Take Killzone 1 and:

- Fix the Framerate problems
- Throw in 720p or 1080p graphics
- Make the A.I. better
- Fix the aiming system

and you have a friggin amazing Killzone 2.

So in otherwords... change about everything about the first game.

Alright I will give you a straight answer in hopes of getting one in return. I know this is futile but I have always been a fan of trying something again and again to reinforce how it is a bad idea. If you read past this I will basically degenrate into flaming the game and the genre all together, but I do this by request.

I hate FPS games. 90% of them are worthless suckfests. Concole ones are the worst offenders too. The controls always suck and there is no way around this on a traditional controller. Even the Wiimote is only a modest step in the right direction. The game will be crippled by the poor input system all console FPSers have.

I dislike how the game tries to distract you with pretty sparklies as well. We have a lot of videos showing how great the game looks but there has not been one time the game has been playable for the general public. If they are planning on releasing soon then it should be at least playable at this stage, but there is no sign of any kind of demo playable anywhere. They have done their very best to not let anyone have hands on time with the game and that means bad stuff always.

It also has way way too large a development team. Those teams get completely out of control and start working against each other everytime. It seems they have bought hook line and sinker into the myth that if you throw money and programmers at a game that it will be made quicker and better. This makes Killzone 2 look more like a bad game in my eyes.

And their past games being mediocre is not so much my opinion alone. Game rankings backs me up on their mediocre scores. Even the "greatly improved" Killzone Liberations is below 80%. This speaks directly to the quality of the development studio, and thus directly to the quality of the game that will come out. If a mediocre studio is putting out a game then it is evidence that the game will be mediocre. If you can name one game that came from a mediocre studio that went on to be a megablockbuster I will concede that this isn't as strong a point as I currently think it is.

Now I ask you again, what information do you have that the gameplay will be fun? Do you have anything other than trailers that show off the pretty sparklies of the game.

Name the unproven IPs that has been a huge success on the PS3. We have Motorstorm that did very well, but was bundled for a long time (still is?) which skews the numbers greatly. Still game rankings has it at a good over all score so we can count that one safely. Uncharted has been inching its way towards a million sales, and that is with it launching near the holiday sales rush. There was one other big name new IP that sold really well though. Top selling PS3 game I think (also bundled for a bit) and hugely hyped. I think it might have a sequel due out this fall. Man if only my memory didn't fallter so much I would have been met with the worst resistance to recalling a memeory of my life.

The reason I am figuring RFOM2 will be better is based on historical performances of both studios. Guerrilla Games has a long list of mediocre titles and a non-existant list of blockbuster titles. I haven't even heard of a great game that has come from them. Insomniac, on the other hand, has the very succesful Ratchet and Clank series as well as the very successful RFOM. I prefer hard evidence of esoteric hype.

What are you talking about?  Their new IPs this year have been Heavenly Swod, Lair, Warhawk, and Uncharted.  None of them have been huge successes.  Hell, it's a stretch to call any of them successes at all.  I don't know what's so bad about trusting a sequel to an already good game (Resistance) from an already good developer (Insomniac) to be better than a sequel to a mediocre game by a developer who has yet to prove themselves.

That's my opinion.  I just don't understand why Resistance 2 is being written off in favor of it.  Also, who is it a "fanboy rant" to prefer 1 game on a system over another game on a system?  They are both on the same system.  It's not like I'm yelling for Halo 3 or anything...
