Forums - Sony - God of War: Ascension Gameplay Footage Debuting (Video up, come in and see!!)

This looks super bad ass.

Its gonna be interesting trying something like this, I'm glad to see they are trying something totally different with multi-player who knows if done correctly it could be a game changer for the multiplayer space.

Personally, I was hoping for the series to end with GoW3 and for Santa Monica's talents go to a new IP instead. That being said, Ascension does look promising.

It's rumord that SSM have split into 2 teams like Naughty Dog have and are working on a FPS title (lol probably not what you wanted to hear either im gonna assume)

You assumed correctly :(

That being said, I'm getting sick of waiting for somebody to make a good, realistic FPS MP game.

TBH, I don't think that the words good and realistic can ever go together in an FPS game. An FPS game would not be fun if all it takes to die is one bullet 70% of the time, while all other bullets would render you imobile and unable to heal. There are plenty of the so-called realistic FPS games, but none of them are actually any good because of this.

In this respect, I'd say that if you want a realistic shooter, than you should play Halo. In that game you shoot someone till their shields deplete, unlike other games where people have health bars. The warfare in Halo is totally possible in the future...

Will this require an online pass?

Any links to single player footage yet?

None has been revealed. They are doing a big E3 reveal, so we'll most likely have to wait until then.

Guess that'll be fine for me atleast.

Multiplayer looks good, wasn't quite sure if multiplayer was going to work, but this looks like it's going to be fun. Still, I'm more of a single player guy so I can't wait to see some footage for that.

Right now it's arguable what the best looking console  game is between God of War III, Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 (Not Uncharted 2, that's quite mediocre now in terms of graphics) because they're all pretty much at the same level, even though GOW3 was SSM's first attempt compared with 2 by GG & 3 by ND AND it released over a year before the other 2 mentioned games, I still believe God of War III looks the best and it definitely performs best...

That said, holy shit, God of War: Ascension makes them all look really outdated and it's just multiplayer gameplay which is pared back graphically (like pretty much every game) compared to the single player! It looks STUNNING! Sony Santa Monica are fucking amazing! The amount of great games they collaborate on whilst making the masterpieces God of War III and the only game capable of topping it God of War: Ascension is beyond me, they are the best developers in the world in my opinion.

Here's a stunning shot from God of War: Ascensions multiplayer!

Okay, I have a vision. God of War: Ascension needs to copy/paste the 8-player coop mode from Resistance 2 into their game...except with the God of war world/characters/creatures obviously. Well, and just 4-6 players would be enough.

The God of War series needs this type of coop mode where you battle AI dudes (the entire range of enemies: grunt, mid-sized, large, and ginormous) through different levels more than it needs a multiplayer coop mode imho.

Has anyone ever played R2's 8-player coop? It's the first video game to get/keep me interested in online play (good thing since the campaign was poor). This mode by itself made the game worth the $60 price tag. It had me completely addicted.

Anyhooters, regardless of whether you've played R2's coop, can you imagine being able to team up with buddies to go through different levels fighting (and by fighting I mean disembowelling) a bunch of enemies together, then getting to the end of the level where you have to face (a) massive boss(es)? Teaming up to take down bosses and other enemies would be great in itself; but, every kill gains you XP, so you're always working toward the goal to unlock the next weapon, ability, etc. to become more and more powerful. Working towards those unlocks is what got me so addicted to the R2 coop. Knowing that your next unlock will completely change the game and allow you to plow through enemies just makes you wanna not stop playing till you get there (then same thing for the next unlock).

I honestly think, if done right, this could even steal the fun crown from the campaign.

I can see it now fellow VGChartzers.
