And there we have it.

I liked the last sentence the best of all, Valve and Steam are the true unsung heroes and winners of this generation, both for me and the market as a whole.

I wouldn't say they're unsung, they've achieved a status amonsgt PC games, blogs and news sites that I don't think any other company could reach. Undoubtedly the true 'winners' of the past generation.

But they aren't nearly sung enough! Sing more!

I would say Sony. They have the highest selling console, the PS2, and they could've done something just as great with the PS3. (Don't ask me what made the PS2 so popular, I don't know.) Sony did something right the generation before last gen. that they didn't do with the PS3.

I think that a large part of the PS2's success can be attributed to the failings of the competition.

That has long been my theory. Sony didn't really do anything wrong with the PS2, but they didn't especially do anything right, except their ability to swamp the Dreamcast to guarantee that it was no longer a threat (what with an almost 10 million lead on the PS2 and all). It was the simple fact of the PS2 carrying the PS1's momentum, plus the fact that GC and Xbox didn't really do anything to make themselves different from the PS2, but came out a year+ later, leaving them with that same momentum disadvantage and nothing to alleviate it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
