Forums - Gaming - The Walking Dead Game - Episode 1

I just finished the first episode, and thought I would post my thoughts and see what everyone else thinks of the game.

First off I am a big fan of the television series, so I went ahead and bought the 5-Episode package from the PS Store and I am glad I did.

-The game play in the game is different than most other games I have played and much of it is based on decision making, and unlike many other games you can see immediate impact on the game from these decisions. I really liked the notes were the game told you the AI were taking notes on your responses.

- I was doubtful if the game designers would be able to transfer the anxiety you can experience in the series to the game, and overall they were able to do so by placing time limits on responses and actions.

- On a less positive note, the game can be a little drawn out (kinda like the series at times), with excess dialogue and not as much action as I would have expected.

Overall, I think the game is fairly well done. I think by taking a non-traditional form a control and gameplay the developers were able to make it feel like you are participating in an episode and that the choices you are making really matter. I think if they had chosen a tpical third-person shooter style form of gameplay not many people would have been impressed, as few people are with tv-to-game games.

Finally, I thought it was interesting that the game displayed your decisions in comparison to decisions others made.

What decisions did you guys make?

I like making really contradictory decisions to see how the characters will react, like say blaming a death on someone, then siding with them then going against them again and provoking arguments in general. Haven't finished it yet as Binary Domain has distracted me, but I am honestly surprised with the how the game turned out. It's not so much a traditional point and click game with puzzles but rather a dynamic choose your own adventure novel that puts you on the spot with your choices and actions. What surprises me is how incredibly well it works. But it also upsets me because Jurassic Park could have been this good.

I attempted to make the best decisions that first time through. Will be a bit more of a loose cannon the next time through, just to see reaactions the characters have programed into them. Plenty of time to do that, Episode 2 won't be out for a couple of weeks.

I'm in love with this game!!! I tried to be the good guy but made some boneheaded decisions, i save duck and the news reporter. and i love that they gave back stories for main walking dead characters (so far glenn and hershel) it sucks we got to wait a month for the next episode

I saved Duck and Doug, the first time through. I saved Doug cause the reporter had a gun, and my name is Doug as well. I thought she might use te gun to save herself.

I agree that the wait for a month until the next episode sucks, but I think the waiting period will add to the value of the game, and give a chance for a couple of play throughs. I will use each save slot for a couple of play types, I will probably be a real @ss in one which will be nice as I always pick the good guy options in most games.

This game is like the damn show, which means its awesome. I tried the demo on my PS3 and purchased all episodes. The only thing that bothers me is that we´ll have to wait six months until we get all of them together.
