Forums - Sales - USA Pre-order Chart - 21st April, 2012 | Final Numbers: Prototype 2

Abysmal Prototype 2 numbers, I liked the first game, and the second looks marginally better, but those numbers.. Are bad.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Not really surprising to see an exclusive not due strong numbers. Especially not so much on the PS3.

Sure PS3 has tons have exclusives but they all mostly sell mid-range or lower. They actually do too many 1st party exclusives so they don't have the money to actually push these franchises with strong advertising and such. Sony themselves have even said this is a problem.

They need to focus more on a few big name in house exclusives and try to turn them into mega franchises like Halo and Gears. They have Uncharted right now which is doing pretty successful but if you look at most of the other 1st party stuff in terms of sales they aren't massive franchises. Starhawk is simply being swallowed up in everything else at least currently.

Gran Turismo laughs at this

EDIT: also, Gears Of War isnt a Microsoft 1st party ip if that is what you were implying when you said "turn them into mega franchises like Halo and Gears"

Also, if a game sells shitty, it's because of the game's quality, or at least the market's opinion of said games. Good games tend to sell well enough to be successful. In which case, later iterations then receive the marketing & budget they deserve. Uncharted made a name for itself by being high quality. Sony later put more money into it because they knew Naughty Dog could make quality. The same would go for any IP if they were proven to have potential.

In the case of Starhawk, I would not expect to have decent pre-orders at all. It's a new IP from an unknown developer. People don't care for it. However, if the game is really good, then it will sell well and maybe Sony will invest more money into the IP.

StarHawk at 47k with 3 weeks left?

damn, i wanted to see Starhawk hit atleast 100k preorders but whatever...

i think i can bet that Sony isnt going to give this game a commercial just like Twisted Metal

Sony keeps making its franchises rely on its legs to sell SMH

this game will still hit 1 mill though without decent advertisement

Warhawk opened with 59k its 1st week in America

I think the fact that he wrote: "most of the other 1st party stuff" speaks volumes, BenV is well aware of the fact that Gran Turismo is/was Playstation's largest franchise, but his point that besides Gran Turismo and Uncharted Sony does not have any monster franchises still stands.

Also the fact that they've only been able to put out one mainline GT game means that this gen Uncharted has undeniably been bigger for them than Gran Turismo has.

This isn't anything bad on Gran Turismo's point however.

lol well maybe he should have added GT being that its the biggest. I cant imagine myself saying something about MS's franchises without mentioning Halo but i get what you are saying though

and Sonys 1st party franchises on PS3 are doing just as good as Microsofts 1st party franchises on 360 besides Halo due to Gran Turismos inactivity and presence most of the gen

EDIT: Sony does not have any monster franchises still stands. <-- I JUST DONT GET THIS LMAO how dont they have any monster franchises? and what are you guys comparing this to? the wii??? because you guys are INCORRECT if you are comparing Sonys 1st party franchises to MS's 1st party franchises

I don't understand why Jay or enditall are even arguing with me. This isn't anything anti-Sony its a fact. You really think Sony are posting good profit from Ratchet & Clank All 4 One, Killzone, LBP2, Starhawk, or really the majority of their exclusives? Well, they aren't.

This is a fact. Sony themselves have straight said they are going to narrow down and cut down the amount of exclusives they have. It only makes sense. So again, your not arguing with me then, your arguing with Sony since we seem to be in agreement.

But anyways this is getting Off topic this is a pre-order thread I'm not gonna sit around and argue with your guys agenda, I dont really care anyways.

doesn't look good for prototype 2...so much for "teh infamous killer" will pick it up when it's like $20 or lower...the first one was just so clunky and felt rushed, hopefully they did a better job with the 2nd

Only 20 again? Wow.

Halo Reach: 8.93 Million

Gran turismo: 7.44 Million

Gears of War 3: 5.36 Million

Uncharted 3: 4.17 Million

Dem Mega Franchises, Sony Only wishes they had anything near as big.

This Is a "mega Franchise" Mario Kart Wii: 31.91, Gears is not, it might be Big, and it does Big week ones, but its not a lot larger than Uncharted anymore.
