Well, that rule was made for someone who unknowingly voted for something that had already been eliminated. What you propose is a bit of a loophole in that rule, lol.
I suppose that technically you could get away with it once or twice, but once the chart has been updated I'd stop counting your votes unless both choices were applicable.
