It seemed a little fabricated though prof.

This is roughly what you told basil:
"Hey, I'm going to tell you something and then I'll use my lie-detector on you. Okay, now go ahead and say it"

Then basil goes to his little lair, and fabricates a little poem after your kind instructions:
1 hour later: "Where the heck is basil! I thought I told him to fabricate that damned poem!"
in comes basil: "Okay guys, here is my poem" Everyone gets trolled, prof doesn't really explain but lets us talk talk talk until we're red in the face. In the end, noone gained anything.

That's kind of how I see it.

I think you got caried away with your "hints", that you painted yourself in a corner, limiting your choices of fakeclaims by stating your Pokemon could roll and that your role was connected to your Pokemon, realizing this you didn't want to give out any other hints that would further limit you in your choice which is why you refused to answer a question that in reality would have no impact if you were telling the truth.
