Should Nintendo embrace collectors editions?

Today Nintendo has barely released any collectors editions. While other publishers are bringing in some extra cash by offering collectors editions for up to 120$ with things like sound tracks, documentaries/interviews, free additional content maybe a plastic statue or nifty collectable like night goggles. Other publishers and studios are doing this on a regular basis to bring in extra cash and it appears to be working thousands of collectors editions sell almost each game.

Maybe Nintendo should follow Microsoft's example. We know from time to time Nintendo releases collectors ed hardware but look at Microsoft releasing special 360 models for almost every major game. These models simply have a different skin or other miniscule features but these models can become the must have for the holidays.

Maybe Nintendo should use collectors editions to promote pre- orders upgrading customers regular edition to a pre- order edition. Or maybe Nintendo could make Collector's editions available exclusively from Nintendo's own store online or exclusive to specific retailers?

What should Nintendo do continue selling normal copies maybe throwing in a pre- order bonus once in a while? Or should Nintendo cash in on the collectors edition craze for some extra dough?

Yes, but only for niche games and games truely designed for the hardcore.

However they already do this. Metroid Prime 3 has a Trilogy edition, The Last Story and XenoBlade have collectors ed's in Europe and Zelda has a Collectors ed.

I think these editions should be limited to these super hardcore games, but I wish NOA made collectors editions of The Last Story and XenoBlade.

P.S. I also mentioned this in your other thread by mistake.

Themed consoles would be a good idea, but severely overpriced bundles of junk? No thanks.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I'm not interested unless it comes with something useful (Skyward Sword Wii Remote +)

They have done this a lot with the 3DS (or at least in Japan), and they seemed to pay off every time. So sure, why not.
