Forums - Gaming - Google hits one out of the ballpark (earnings)

Google stock seems to have plummeted since their earnings report. I don't think shareholders were impressed.

Share value has dropped from 656$ to 603$.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Dude, I never disputed that Google would likely grow faster than MS. I disputed your characterization of Google's growth this quarter as "out of the ballpark" and I disputed your assertion that Google's growth would constrain Microsoft's ability to compete in mobile computing. It isn't, and it doesn't.

Microsoft is far more constrained by its own strategic position as the pre-eminant supplier of desktop operating systems and productivity software than it is by any measure of profitability.

In 2008 google had a third of mft's revenue, and now it is sitting at half that.  You don't think that in 2015 when google hits 2/3's of msft's revenue that google would be able to marshal more resources against msft?  Of course not, you think that pure strategy is the only thing that matters.  Well, how well has msft executed its strategy so far?

Google already spent $500 million to buy Android way back in 2005, and and now they've spent $12 billion on Motorola. All other revenues and expenditures are an inscrutable black box. How much more cash does Google need to burn in order to realize their mobile strategy? Do they need to start buying carriers next?

You're mixing up cause and effect. Google doesn't need more resources to execute their mobile strategy, they need a mobile strategy that doesn't gobble up resources in the billions of dollars.

The Motorola acquisition is basically better looked at as a choice between a bad decision ( that of being anally raped by patent fees) or by making a sizable investment that can integrate well with google's evolving strategy.  Now google will have a company that can produce set-top boxes for googleTV, tablets , and smartphones.  That said, a lot of acquisitions are money wasters, but at least google will have a company that can execute its mobile strategy, as well as let it avoid throwing money away to the patent trolls.  Also, wall street seemed pretty optimistic about the acquisition, from the twenty or thirty articles that I've read about googorola, only a few had a negative opinion on the matter.

The shareholders were impressed with the results but that wasn't the big issue with the company.  Rather, mostly institutional investors such as mutual or pension funds are pissed that google decided to start issuing two types of stocks, one with voting powers and another without.  The move was seen as kinda draconian and has been criticized.

it is growing at twice as fast as Msft?

no shit

Microsoft formed 1975 (public 1986)
Google formed 1998 (public 2004)

You seem to over simplify and generalise... and hate all things MSmobile... you last sentence is barmy.

This thread isn't quite as bad as your one yesterday though...

Don't be a hypocrite dude. Everyone has the right to thier own opinions.

Looking at today's prices, YOY Microsoft stock is up 25%. Google stock is up 15%...Microsoft also pays a dividend.

Both stocks and companies are doing great financially if you look at their bottom line. So I really don't see where the FUD about Microsoft losing steam and becoming irrelevant that people like you keep spreading is coming from.

Then, the significant uptick is merely a market correction, where msft was really undervalued.  Seriously, the analyst community roundly describes Microsoft as having the growth prospects of some some stodgy old industrial, or not impressive.  And until msft finds another market that they can dominate the story will be pretty much the same.

However, since you're obviously financially literate, I could just pull up some projections of msfts and google's earnings as well as revenue.  How would you like that?

Im done posting in your threads or replying to you in general. You're like a bottomless pit of nonsence...
