Prediction:

360 - undertracked by 50k
PS3 - undertracked by 50k-100k
3DS - spot on
Vita - undertracked by 30k
Wii - undertracked by 20k

Pretty nice prediction here.

I am happy for the The Show series, never played the full game, but from what I played (not being a baseball fan), the level of detail is tremendous. I will go on the line and say that The Show brand should be expanded to other sports also.

The more I see how Sony talks about the Vita, the more I see it in trouble rigth now. More then price they need big time exclusive content in there.

PS3 is selling better then usual compared to the 360 as it should (price drops), the question still remains, will sony introduce a new slimmer PS3 model after the 360 makes a HUGE price cut at E3? Or will they bank on the 199 console "only" factor?

Well, in the country where we likely have the most reliable data, our first month is 25-30% less than actual for vita. Let's not start counting it out just yet.

Not counting anything out, I just talked about how Sony talks about the Vita. Skype? Are you serious? It´s like they did a solid job of providing good launch games, and still made a big mistake of not providing a good flow of games until E3. After E3 it is another ball game, but until then, if you want the regular consumer to pay 250 just for the handheld machine, it need constant games coming. I will not even talk about the horrible decision they made of releasing the machine sooner on the region where PSP was big and still selling like crazy, without games for that market.

I know that if the Vita manages to stay unhackable for the majority of the consumer, it will outsell the PSP when it is all said and done, having said that Sony is still making big time mistakes at console releases, Sony needs to be a quicker seller, instead of starting slow and losing potential big money with lack of software sales in the beginning of new gen consoles.

March and early April were bad but rest of Q2 looks much better:

04/17 - Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (PSV)

05/01 - Mortal Kombat (PSV)

05/29- Resistance

05/31 - Silent Hill: Book of Memories (PSV)

06/12 - Gravity Rush (PSV)

end of June - LBP

Are NPD numbers suppose to be more accurate than here on VGC, or are they just another company that uses extrapolation formulas based on a few retail outlets?

NPD is the biggest market research company in the world. Nintendo, Sony and MS have press releases according to their numbers. They are way more accurate than VGC. They basically have unlimited resources. I guess they are even the only one who gets data from Wal Mart.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

well if you look at NPD&VGC's USA LTD you will find sometimes VGC don't care NPD's number
and yeah NPD is more accurate than VGC

How can NPD 100% reliable if they dont even include Limited Editions or those bundled with hardware?

Sorry I had to go out last night!

Smallest PS3 - 360 gap since Slim debuted, PS3 price cut has had a sustained effect afterall. Star Wars should widen it next month, not sure about May, June they have to cut!

Wii is falling behind rapiidly, down 115k YOY despite price cut, going to $99 will do little to nothing. 360 - Wii gap is 5.57m, closed the gap 196k this month.

(US NPD)    Q1 2006          Q1 2007       Q1 2008       Q1 2009       Q1 2010       Q1 2011       Q1 2012

X360              538k                721k                746k           1030k            1093k             1349k            1067k

                      3.91m              4.62m            4.74m         4.77m           6.76m             7.24m

                       FY 2006          FY 2007         FY 2008        FY 2009        FY 2010          FY 2011        FY 2012

Not a great quarter for X360, still much better than the 2005-2008 rates though. PS3 did 1.03m in Q1 2011, and 4.51m in all of 2011 even with a price cut. Wii did 1.06m in Q1 2011 and did 4.55m in all of 2011 even with a price cut.

This generation Q1 is typically 1/5 to 2/9 of total hardware sales per year, with a couple exceptions for systems with irregular supply like Wii in 2007 / 2008

Not a great quarter?  really?  best console on the market for this quarter in its 7th year? are you for real?  I rralise you have some kind of aversion to the 360 but this is getting too obvious.

can you name me the consoles that have achieved a performance as good as this in their 7th year?  or a console that has achieved its second best 1st quarter in its 7th year (I'm saying its a tie with FY2010, cos it effectively is)

Just ignore him, he thought Wii was gonna do 2.5m more than 360 last year in the US, clearly knows nothing.

Suggesting 360 will do 4.5 because of what PS3 and Wii did in Q1 last year is stupid, 360 hasn't had a cut in years.

Expected PS3 numbers... 100k undertracked like every month.

Yes....

We only have to go back 2 months to find the last time the PS3 was overtracked in comparison to NPD. Although pretty much everything was that month.

its hope over sense.

I expect a fairly substantial price cut... and of course we have Halo 4.

If Pachter was right about them making $115 on average per 360, they can afford a $70 cut to $129.

Kinect could also do with a price cut.
