I have been hearing of a LOT of rumors about PS4, Xbox 720 and Wii U. I've read that Wii U could possibly be less powerful than PS3 and some which say it will be the most powerful next generation. All this is confusing me and leading me to unanswered questions so I've come up with the perfect conclusion. I think I will just ignore them until everything is officially announced.

Also, why are most of the rumours about graphics and power of certain chips? Gaming's losing spirit in my opinion. All we care about is visuals and what game consoles can do aside from gaming. This is why I am avoiding these rumours. Games are meant to be about gameplay, not be comparable to a hollywood movie.

I'm amazed that you think this is some new phenomenon. Hell, since the days of the SNES/Genesis people have argued endlessly about largely pointless technical aspects.

Though, your opinion about graphics is odd. I can see where you're coming from but to not care about graphics at all? That is part of a game. It's also part of life; things advance. Gameplay should be the biggest thing about a game but Graphics is also important. Graphics don't have to be Life-Like nor do they have to be Hollywood movie-like. Graphics can be like Skyward Sword, Okami, or Epic Mickey, too. If we didn't have graphics (Art Style) then we wouldn't have a whole game.

I guess it's because of my young age (15) that I only noticed it now. The only 2 generations I remember are GC/PS2 gen and this gen.

This is nothing new, and anyone who has lived through enough generation shifts will be able to tell you to take all rumours with a grain of salt ...

News sites that post rumours are more interested in having something new to say that will drive traffic than having the correct information. The net result is that these rumours rarely resemble reality; and the few times they do it is debatable whether they knew something or if they just got lucky.

I'm not saying that graphics don't matter at all. I'm saying that it shouldn't be what makes or breaks a game. I mean, Super Mario Bros. is still a good game. Even though it came out 26 years ago, it still is played today even though it is 8-bit.

But all that matters is how hard each console flops.

All these rumors are useless, too much fud going on. One day it's blu-ray + SSD drive + kinect 2.0 build in + tablet controller + 16 cores + 4K resolution etc, next day it's no disc drive, always online to be able to play, 2nd hand market locked out, no BC, etc.
Even when all the companies release their final specs we still won't know where the bottlenecks will be until developers get some experience with each system.

All that I'm interested in is whether the nextbox and wiiU will support HDMI 1.4, it's time to switch to lossless / uncompressed sound for all systems.

Totally agreed with you, for me graphics are just a bonus in video games, if the game looks good that's ok, but if the game doesn't look good or it's old it won't prevent me from playing it. IMO there are more important things like gameplay, story, sound, etc. Anyway I'm also tired about these rumors, I just going to wait until there is an official statement from all 3 companies

It's nothing new. Even back in the Atari/Colecovision?Intellivision days each new console was all about better graphics. Coleco said they had the best, Intellivision said they had the best and Atari released the 5200 as a successor to the VCS 2600 to compete. The same was true the with Master System, NES, and Atari 7800. And it was true again with the Genesis, Turbo Grafx-16, and SNES. There has not been a single generation that has used the promise of better graphics as a war-cry.

But I do agree with. Rumors, of all kinds, should be taken with a grain of salt. I like reading all the rumors, but I don't dwell on them. It's fun to speculate, but it's not worth getting excited about until the official announcements hit.

People get all worked up over rumors and then when they turn out to be not true some people feel betrayed because they didn't get what they expected or wanted to believe.
