Forums - Gaming - Square Enix will step up ports and sequels.

The Story is 100% BS

The article came from a satire web site.

I'm starting to find it really sad that FFVII and Sony fanboys are so desperate for at FFVII remake that they are starting to take fake news as truth. =/

How lame...just freaking make new games, why do we need remakes of games we can still play on like 4 different systems because they keep re-releasing them?

Because some of us doesn't own these games? I have never played a Final Fantasy game.

I'd say if they made FF7 ground up for PS3 only .. that'd be the first game i'd want for the ps3, and will almost definitely be a system seller for me

Sorry to disapoint, but it won't happen. SquareEnix stated a while back that remaking FFVII for the PS3 would be too big a job, and they would rather do something else.

I think a Wii release will be much more likely - they could basically "port it", and just rework some of the graphics (rather than having to redesign the entire game).

Plus - PS2/PS3 owners can already play the original - and maybe even via a digital download sometime soon.

(I suspect a PSP or even DS remake/port would be a lot more likely - with their new strategy, nothing that involves little work can be ruled out these days...).

Nintendo already has plans for some games to be able to us 2GB carts on DS...

Link please? I'd really like to see some confirmation on this.

I'll be surprised - maybe 2Gbit (1Gbit are already being used I think? i.e. 128MB). Still, 2Gbit = huge (half a CD) for a cart game.

oh I'm sorry Hus, did you really want a Final Fantasy VII remake on your lonely PS3. =(

I didn't mean to be the bringer of bad news for you. Would a cookie help soften the blow of the news? Does Hus want a cookie? Its chocolate chip.

mmm... FFVII FFVIII and FFIX on my PSP... :

Wii is more likely

How? Someone said it was announced SE expects to put FF7-9 on the PSN network for download, following the current trend of PS1 games for download it will work on the PSP, and becuase of the recent patch, it will ALSO work on my PS3. So there you have it. FF7-9 on my PSP. (I just scored a 4gb memory card, so F*K yeah!)

Actually I think there is better odds of S-E releasing FFVII-IX on UMDs then seeing them on PSN. Just look at what they did with FF1-2 and FFT, all 3 of thous games should have been released on PSN and cost about $6-10, instead they just released them with a few minor updates and put a $30 price tag on them. Heck they broke up FF1-2, the PSOne and GBA both got them on one disc (cart for the GBA) and it was $30 to get both of them.

I really feel that PSP owners are getting royal screwed with the ports of FF1 & 2. And I don't see it being any different IF they decided to do something with FFVII-IX on the PSP.

Its a myth that FFVII was a big game. Angel Studios wanted to do FFVII for N64. The only reason they did RE2 was because Squaresoft declined their offer. Most of the data in FFVII and the other PS FF games is redundant. DS carts currently have twice the capacity of N64 carts. Now if Angel Studios could fit FFVII on a 64MB N64 cart in a resolution of 640x480, then fitting the game on a 128MB DS cart in a resolution of 256x192 would be a cake walk. Thats assuming that they don't opt for one of the 256 or 512MB carts that Nintendo is reportedly rolling out this year.

I agree that FF7 was not that big of a game as people thought, but the FMVs and to a smaller extent the music and repeated data took up huge amounts of space.  I'm sure they could easily put FF7 - FMVs on a DS cart but FMVs were a big part of the cimematics and story of the game.  It just wouldn't be the same without them.

The PS1 had to encode FMVs in MPEG-1. The DS can handle FMVs in MPEG-4.

As for the story being a fake, I noticed that. The story was an obvious parody, so whoevery edited reports of it to look real are the real liars.

However, S-E has changed to a model like this already, as recent released have shown. And they actually did state they plan to eventually release FFVII-IX on PSN, although that was a while ago, so their plans may have changed since then.
