Its a myth that FFVII was a big game. Angel Studios wanted to do FFVII for N64. The only reason they did RE2 was because Squaresoft declined their offer. Most of the data in FFVII and the other PS FF games is redundant. DS carts currently have twice the capacity of N64 carts. Now if Angel Studios could fit FFVII on a 64MB N64 cart in a resolution of 640x480, then fitting the game on a 128MB DS cart in a resolution of 256x192 would be a cake walk. Thats assuming that they don't opt for one of the 256 or 512MB carts that Nintendo is reportedly rolling out this year.

I agree that FF7 was not that big of a game as people thought, but the FMVs and to a smaller extent the music and repeated data took up huge amounts of space. I'm sure they could easily put FF7 - FMVs on a DS cart but FMVs were a big part of the cimematics and story of the game. It just wouldn't be the same without them.

The PS1 had to encode FMVs in MPEG-1. The DS can handle FMVs in MPEG-4.

As for the story being a fake, I noticed that. The story was an obvious parody, so whoevery edited reports of it to look real are the real liars.

However, S-E has changed to a model like this already, as recent released have shown. And they actually did state they plan to eventually release FFVII-IX on PSN, although that was a while ago, so their plans may have changed since then.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
