Forums - Sales - Analyst: "Sony has no idea what they are doing [with the PSV]."

reading this made me think about one of the things the analyst pointed out: that western developers aren't very committed to creating a dynamic experience on a handheld.

i can't really think of any handheld games i've played made by western developers besides casual ones :P

I know my comment was an opinion but the guy is an analyst, he's supposed to be unbiased.

1. Doesn't matter that Nintendos IPs sell more if you don't like plaformers....Nintendo will always have stronger IPs. Does than mean people should only buy Nintendo consoles/portables? No.

2. Of course Drakes Deception has longer(and sexier) legs. PS3 has a much higher install base so naturally games have the chance to sell more over time. With Vita sales dropping to all-time lows each and every week, Golden Abyss has yet to find an audience. Like you said above, Nintendo IPs are stronger unlike Sony ones. You can't expect Uncharted Golden Abyss to have legs like Super Mario 3D Land.

3. I see what you did there..but you're wrong :D

4. Not everyone has an HD console! Many people have a Wii instead.

1) It doesn't mean that people should only buy Nintendo handhelds. It only means that Nintendo will sell more systems, because they are the better choice for more people.

2) But isn't the purpose of Golden Abyss to sell the PSV? Yet a couple of weeks after launch it's already being outsold by a four months old game on a weekly basis. The lack of Vita sales seems to be due to Uncharted being the wrong type of game for a handheld. Lastly, good legs usually develop for games that are commonly picked up with new console purchases, so Uncharted 3 apparently does a better job at selling PS3s than Golden Abyss does for the Vita. So your counterpoint that Uncharted 3 greatly benefits from the PS3's bigger installed base doesn't hold as much merit as you think.

3) Looks like you win this point.

4) Sure, but what's the better deal for a Wii only owner; a PS3 or a PSV? It's not even a contest.

1. But sales aren't what were being discussed. He said that the 3DS was the better choice over Vita since it has stronger IPs.  The core market which is what Sony is aiming for, doesn't give a crap about Mario games.

2. Uncharted Golden Abyss is the best selling PSV game every week. PSV software sales are so low that you just don't notice it all the way at #55 in the global chart. People are still playing the games they picked up at launch for their Vita. You can't expect PSV software to be on top of PS3 or Xbox 360 software. when its only has an install base of 1.6m.

4. It depends on what games you're looking for. PS3 obviously has more.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA ROTFL Muhahahahahahaha WOW!!!, VGKing sure fell for it in a big way rotfl xD.

I have to say right now Rol wins the April fools day hands down, he got so many people hahahahaha, and even after it being pointed out vgking still fell for it xD. I just knew when i came looking for this thread it was going to be full of win :D.

You're really immature dude. Grow up.

Whether this interview was fake or not doesn't matter. I still stand by my comments.

The analyst was spot on on this part: "If you are already at home, then why should you choose to play Golden Abyss over Drake's Deception?

Personally, I expect/ed to see PS3 games, and lots of them, that made use of the Vita as a controller in the fashion of the demo of Zelda on the WiiU.

I don't know if it would be a great selling point but I would love to play FF XIII-2 for example on the PS3 with the inventory on the Vita's screen like a split screen thing that Nintendo has been doing.

I mean Nintndo is obviously trying to take the split screen experience to home consoles with the WiiU and whereas the PS3 and PSV have that cabability, Sony does not really seem to be willing to exploit it. Maybe it doesn't sound like much but it would be a feature.

I think it says a lot about analysts in this industry when Rol's 2011 April Fool's Joke was the most accurate prediction of the current handheld situation.

That could be why so many people are taking his 2012 joke as the real think. But I think the joke is on the industry.

i hate handhelds and the 3ds sounds like a much better deal to me then the vita anyway.
at least on 3ds i can play pokemon and some mario games
nothing on the vita looks interesting at all

sony hasn't had a clue all gen though, so why am i surprised =

An actually serious analysis on the 1st of April? Rolling us by not rolling us when we most expect to be rolled? Recursive and implicit rolling, that is? Head explodes.

1) The question was about sales and the answer was about sales as well. In this context something being the better choice means that it is expected to sell more.

2) New PSV owners should buy Uncharted: Golden Abyss along with their Vita. Uncharted should sell the Vita, because it's supposed to be the Vita's biggest exclusive. But meanwhile, more people buy a PS3 to play Uncharted 3, even though the game is already four months old while GA just came out recently.

4) Yes, that's exactly my point.

You can't compare Golden Abyss with Drake's Deception, I'm sure Bend studio put a lot of hard work but Naughty Dog is way better and it is the third Uncharted they develop also GA does not have online multilpayer and thats a big factor for an Uncharted player. Golden Abyss has sold to 1/3 of the PS Vita owners.

Yes I agree.
I really want to buying a Vita, but I don't know which game I should play. Well... There is uncharted game, but I don't want spend my $350 (Vita, 32GB memory, and 1 game) just for 10-20 hours of gameplay.

I already make a mistake with 3DS, which is an expensive portable system and had no games! That time I only had SSF43D.
