Sony will cut the price of the PSV this year, possibly as soon as E3 (to make it a big announcement), but no later than September.

I'm hoping they will. The thing is though, the PSV barely breaks even as it is. And I don't believe that Sony can afford to make a loss on each unit sold like Nintendo could, or like they did with the PS3.

I also don't believe they have as much faith...

Money is not an issue.

It is. If you aren't being profitable then there's no point continuing in the business.

Forget Monster hunter, bring out games to attract more people like they did with the PS2!

Like?

Monster hunter is guaranteed to sell millions, in Japan alone. That'll attract new customers!

I agree we need more new IP's, however.

I don't think it will. But that's not dooming it at all. 3DS won't do it by any chances too.

The amount of systems sold for piracy for both DS an PSP must be absurd... and these newer systems just don't have those "system sellers" yet, and won't have one for a long time, if not ever.

The piracy will be less of an issue this gen, with the increased encryption on the systems, and the greater knowledge of the issue.

As for the system sellers? MK7 is one. But only time will tell how long for.

Oh, no, the system sellers in quotes I'm referring are the pirated games. Vita and 3DS especially 3DS will have a lot of system sellers, and Mario Kart is one of them for sure.

I say let's wait until E3. There will be a big focus of PS Vita (unless PS4 is announced ofcourse but that's unlikely), we will see many announcements of new games and trailers/gameplay for announced games. There will be a price cut this year, I don't see how they couldn't.

Haven't Sony already rules out the prospects of a PS4 announcement this year?

Or was that the Xbox 720...

Or, more likely, both.

The thing is, they can't hang around and let the Wii U get a foothold. That's the main reason the Vita is struggling IMO.

That doesn't really mean anything. They can't really say anything other than "Nope, not happening" as that would be like announcing it. But I think it's still very unlikely anyway.

Well, yeah. I forgot about that. Fuck man I hope the lineup impresses enough to steal some attention for itself.

Also, if there is a pricecut, lets say in time for winter/holiday season, how much do you think it'll drop?

Vita just needs the big software to come out.. Gta, call of duty, gran turismo, final fantasy, metal gear solid etc. if combined with a price cut the vita WILL match the 3ds in weekly sales. Everyone was laughing at the 3ds when it was in the same situation as the vita is currently in and they both had the same problems. Lack of killer software and a high price point.

People shouldn't be surprised at how the vita is doing. Nowadays the price is such a big factor. When the price cut and software roll in, we will look back at these threads and laugh.

Vita is in bad troubles.
1) They can cut the price but it's the best way to destroy the profitability of the project: with good sales the breakeven was 3-years far from the launch, but actually the market is so poor they cannot reach this target.
2) The can cut the price to 179€, but this action will move away too the possibility not to lose money with this project, because the cut will impact directly on the profitability (same disaster Nintendo suffered, but starting from a winning scenario of a money printing console).
3) When they'll cut the price Nintendo will probably react and launch the new 3DS (supposed better 3D effect, better screen and innovative layout), moving back the effect of a cut price
4) In Japan they haven't got any bestseller now, and the poor sales move away the possibility to attract a Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest main title. They can get MH Portable something but not so fast, and considering the incoming MH4 for 3DS...
5) 3DS will litterally explode when a real pokemon new title will get 3DS, the combined effect of MH and Pokemon will speed up the sales of 3DS worldwide, to levels only DS reached.
6) The casual people today are on smartphones and tablets, no way a casual gamer could choose a Vita due to the fact the console haven't got any attractive for a casual.

And that's a disaster, because Sony moved the market to a new step when PS has been created, I don't want to imagine a world without Sony and his brands. Now I feel this risk somehow.

AstroMaSSi rules

Well, if they really are serious about that 10 year life-cycle they probably have lots of ideas up their sleeves

Let's see how those ideas looks before calling doom on this one.

to answer you poll, hell no the vita won't outsell the psp. but the 3DS won't outsell the DS either. sony pulled decent numbers for the ps3 after a disastrous start and I expect much the same for vita but it still won't be anything to brag about just like the ps3.

lol E3 is all I can say

Vita has the hardware. It just needs games that say "Hey, you better buy a Vita if you want to play me!"
