Seriously, how freakin' awesome is this?

I am considering relocating to an area with really good mass transit. With that I am looking forward to being able to do other things besides drive. My work, play games, whatever. With a self driving car it woulding even matter and I could do that anywhere.

Imagine being on a long trip with family and everyone has their seats facing eachother with a little table... playing games or whatever.

Would you seriously trust the car enough to drive you around?

Personally, I live in London, so use the tube to get everywhere, but still don't feel happy getting me Vita out, especially as I often only get around 20 mins before a change

Pretty neat, I have seen some of the tech on programs before. Kinda sceptical that the car understood what to do in the fast food drive through though, I suspect there may have been some pre-programming there.

I would probably use that car to get some sleep on my ways to work in the morning. That car amazes me everytime I see it.

In over 200,000 miles they have yet to crash. However, one was rear-ended by a human driver when it was stopped at a stop sign. Yes, it would be far safer.

I'm sure its programmed to know how drive thrus work... afterall they are all pretty much identical. It can actually "see" everything around and drive both on and off road just fine.

Its a pretty amazing peice of technology and I can't wait for it to be finalized.

Well maybe they are in America, but despite not having many drive-throughs here in the UK they can be quite different... for example how would it know where to stop to take your order. Some have a stand-alone box with a microphone to speak into, some have the same thing but on a wall, some have a booth where you get to talk to someone real. Some don't have a 2 stage system (order and collect being the same window)

And how did the car enter the drive through in the first place... having an automatic sat-nav system is fine for finding a venue, but driving into them can be a different experience at each one... sure the tech of the car means it won't crash into anything, but the sat nav system would need details about every establishment just to know the difference between the entry and exit (which don't have standard road signs to scan like at a junction) or some places have the same bit of road as the entry and exit... again with more possibilities as some are slim so cars have to take turns going in or out, some may be wide but with no markings.

Perhaps things are different in America, there is enough space for the majority of drive through venues to be almost identical, but buildings and the car parks here in the UK have to fit into small spaces. Ultimately the tech can learn what to do, but with the current tech there are still going to be places unique enough that the cars can't do the neccessary maneuvres themselves on the first time visiting.

I don't really want to go through all the reasoning... but you did see all that crap on its top as well as cameras in every window right? THere's a reason it has driven in every type of roadway for over 200,000 miles without a single issue. It can "see" its surrounds and that has far less to do with GPS than you're implying.
