That ancient aliens theory was just hilarious.

Come to think of it... so is the rest of this thread. The only way we would be related to aliens would be through our common constituents.

I just want to know when I can have sex with a lizard... legally.

Just going to throw this out there. Our definition of life is presently incomplete. We recognize about six elements necessary for life, but thus far all have required Phosphorous as one of them (DNA). However, Arsenic is chemically similar if you understand the Periodic Table, and there is mounting evidence that some life forms may be able to use Arsenic instead of Phospohourous. Unicellular organisms have been discovered that are capable of reproducing themselves in the absence of Phosphourous and 500 000X the amount of arsenic believed to be manifestly lethal. So right now on our very own planet we have life forms that don't share the same makeup/building blocks. Bearing this in mind...is it possible that life can exist unlike anything on Earth or in our solar system? I believe the answer is "yes", it is certainly possible and given the size of the universe, probably inevitable.

I think some of you are missing my point.  We are related due to evolving from the same bacteria.  This bacteria has started life on other planets through comet seeding.  This is how we are related (through bacteria).  I went ahead and put it in the op bold.

If it turns out that aliens roughly look like humans I will be massively disappointed in the universe/god/whoever is responsible and probably lose interest in most Sci-Fi stuff.

I suppose the movie Contact didn't deter you yet.

Oh ok, thanks for making that more clear. Question is though if bacteria really traveled through space or were created after particles reach their planets.

One can only speculate, but my guess would be that we are related if aliens exist.

I loved Contact (and thought it was totally weird like 60% of the people leaving the cinema showing were disappointed) and as far as I remember the guy she "contacted" there just chose the appearence she would be most comfortable with.

Right now I believe most scientist consider comet seeding possible.  http://www.panspermia.org/comets.htm I don't expect you to read the whole thing but if you scroll down to the middle sized objects part it talks about a few examples (mainly one that fell near Murchison, Victoria, Australia).

Everything is speculation consider we still know very little of our Universe.  It seems even more questions arise with every little thing we do discover.   I just wanted to discuss the Universe, life, etc... and I thought this might be the best way to get people involved. I could have just made a Space Thread or Universe Thread but that would have probably bored everyone before they even opened the thread.

I believe you are too smart for this thread!  Nah, I'm just kidding but I do like your input.  You seem to be semi on top of your scientific game.  Sounds more like you are describing extremophiles yet those are made of DNA aren't they?  Extremophiles amaze me consider who would of thought that something can survive in a hot pool next to a volcano or by a underwater volcano vent.  That is extreme!

I hope you put some more input into this thread to make it a smarter thread.  I probably could use some corrections even though nothing is certain.  I try to picture to most likely hypothesis/theory.
