Forums - General - Question: What can I say to my Bi/Gay Catholic relative to help him follow how he feels? (Serious!) *update* Doing much better!

The biggest problem that I am reading is that he feels that what he's doing is wrong. That's a shame and that sort of thinking gets people hating themselves. The main thing is to tell him that you accept him no matter whether he pursues a relationship or not.

It's actually rather normal for someone who is gay/lesbian/bi-sexual to hate themselves, because society as a whole hates who they are, hence why suicide rates are so high with the gay/lesbian/bi-sexual population.

However, this situation is something he needs to work out for himself, time heals everything, so just give it time and just remain supportive.

Look, he needs to get to know some gay friends ASAP or he's going to feel like a duck out of water. That should come before getting a boyfriend or even sorting out his religious thing IMHO.  Also, if he's messing with injectable drugs like heroin or meth he's playing with fire.

Maybe you should read the OP?

I did... isn't this your relative talking about your other relative?

It's not clear anymore...

Sometimes I got a feeling that you pretend to be confused just to increase your post count xD

He's talking about his relative's problems that his relative has talked to him about.

I have a very openly bisexual friend, very much a gay culture person, who is also a devout Catholic. I don't think she has a dilemma with it.

How many people under the age of 60 are intolerant towards homosexuals anyway? (Not including bumpkins, who are intolerant against everything - including the natural well being of the world).

Tell them that there has been misinterpretation of the Bible, and it does not actually say there is anything wrong with being gay. Most Catholics are very accepting of gay people.

Essentially, I think the bad Christians in Texas US do not read the bible or even pay attention to the message of Christianity. It is the same as people going to war, attacking, and killing in order to spread the word of Gandhi. It makes no sense at all to hate/discriminate as a Christian. I would not really consider anyone who yells at gay people while holding a bible has actually read the bible. They're so fixated on some passage in Leviticus that they completely miss the core points of not only the New Testament, but also of the religion itself.

I think that there are two different families of religion that will identify as Christians; you have Christians - people who value love, forgiveness, and peace. Then you have the people who declare themselves followers of Jesus and the bible while wrathfully yelling at gay people - these are not Christians, they're just bad fans (and their outpour of hatred in the name of Christianity makes about as much sense as committing genocides across the earth to spread the message of Gandhi).

Christianity faces two major problems: people who think Christianity is somehow at odds against Science, and people who think Christianity is a machine of hate. What can be said about these people are none of them are Christian (either crazy Christian fans as I have outlined above; or atheists), and they are all ignorant.
