This all seems ridiculous to me. People didn't like the ending? Too bad, get over it. Criticize the hell out of Bioware and hope they get the hint and next time do a better job. You know, like everything else. Tons of games/movies/books have had bad endings. Chalk it up to "it was a good game, but the ending sucked" and move on. Seriously, i don't have any idea where these fans are getting the idea they DESERVE to have an ending remade just to fit their infatuation with a series. It's not as if the original ending would disappear from peoples minds anyway. How on earth would people be content with the new ending knowing it was only made due to subdue the backlash at Bioware?

Do I agree having a single ending to game where decisions were supposed to have an effect on the outcome of the story is crappy? Yes I do, especially when they stated the ending would be directly affected. However, I think people should just leave it the way it is. Honestly I don't even care about Mass Effect, i'm just concerned for what kind of precedent this will cause.

This is just my opinion though, and unlike some people who have posted in this thread, i don't think anyone who disagrees with me is foolish or wrong. We just have different stances on the matter.

See that's you're problem right there. The Devs said less then 2 months before the game was released (So they already knew what the endings where like), that we wouldn't have an A,B,C ending. That the ending would be based on our choices in this game and the last 2 games, Yet what we get is an A,B,C ending that makes no sense to the rest of the game, that it's so far out of context with the rest of the game it's like its from a whole other game, and none of our choices mean anything at all. The is pretty muchno replay value in this game, unlike the last 2, but since you don't care about Mass Effect then you dont understand.... Also If you're so worried about setting a precedent i think you should talk to the devs of fallout 3 since they released an alt ending for that. Or maybe Conan Doyle the guy who wrote Sherlock Holmes, After all after fan outrage he brought him back from the dead and after them books became some of the biggest sellers ever, Wow i guess he set such a bad Precedent for books??. Also you should talk to the guys that give Extended, Director editions of Blurays and dvds etc, after all they most be setting a very bad "Precedent"....

Me not caring about Mass Effect shouldn't be an issue considering i agree with the fans that the game ended in a way that made all previous choices irrelevant.

As for the other examples of endings being changed, none of those situations has had this much media attention. Sure, similar situations might have happened in the past but this is the BIG situation.  Since the gaming industry likes to play follow the leader (a phrase from someone in another thread, can't remember the name of the person who said it.) This very well could be big enough to cause a change. Besides, i think it's pretty ridiculous that people are saying since only 50k people want a remade ending, the other 1,950000 people  are simply not being vocal about it. I'm sure there are some yeah, but i'm also sure there is a huge amount who think the ending was fine. I have 2 friends who are  really into Mass Effect and have been since the first one. They are both fine with the ending. While i know pefectly well these 2 don't represent everybody, people who are okay with the ending do exist.

Around the Network

Maybe, just maybe..

Games are less art and more products to be consumed by their players.

Whether Bioware makes a new ending or not, I'd like to think that those who felt genuinely disenfranchised by what they got for an ending may not buy future Bioware software and that just might be worth worrying about.

Pixel Art can be fun.

** WARNING SPOILERS AND WHINING **

The indoctrination theory widely praised as an alternative on teh webz is effectively the worst and most ridiculed ending in the history of literature. 'It was all a dream'. Spare me. He was barely in contact with any Reaper and Virmire made it clear that it is subtle and would take months or years to reach the point of delusion and paranoia that Saren and the Illusive Man display. My Shepard has three discs worth of examples to help combat exactly that and he is arguably the most dedicated and single minded being in the galaxy. How many times did we hear 'Your mind is exceptionally strong', 'a lesser mind', 'strong willed' etc. Perhaps their Shepard is different. Sort of how people resemble their dog.

The alleged 'best' ending would be my choice and see Shepard help the stranded survivors first replant the devastated earth in the spirit of cooperation he painfully built in bringing them there. Then they would use the technologies of FTL-flight, Prothean Cryo Pods and Quarian Life Ships to fight their way back to the stars. Nothing in the multi-coloured explosions explicitly removes all life and technology from the galaxy. They could shorten the time needed to rejoin their own species by forming dozens of fast-moving colonies formed around the construction sites of dozens of relays. That is the kind of massive, progressive effort that only Shepard could demand, organize and lead.

My biggest beef with the endings is that the 'man vs mech' meme is as old as sci-fi and I thought by bringing both the Geth and their creators to the final battle I had broken the boring old mold. So much for that. It turns out the badguys were a collective vacuum cleaner for an entity as undefined and obviously ill-considered as Jodie Foster's daddy cum Contact. Just dreadful. 'We couldn't think of anything so here's the kid you chased around your mind forest! Sorry. We're under a lot of time pressure.'

If the fate of the Geth were not so unceremoniously removed from my decision making, their long range communication to other members of their collective could have helped immeasurably in my hypothetical and triumphant reunification of the galaxy. Instead they are sacrificed by the human they defended or else assimilated in an equally unsatisfying PC ending. I agree with the posters above that I would rather suffer abject defeat than end up as Lord Reaper. Sorry BioWare but defending your lofty artistic status should not be a priority right now. We can only blame so much on the suits at EA. You need to wear some of this s***storm.
