Looks like 2009. I have written an article about this on my blog today. And there is this news article: http://www.mcvuk.com/news/29250/First-talk-of-Xbox-3-emerges MCV is an industry news source so is more measured and better connected than the consumer press.

I have yet to see anything credible that would suggest that the third Xbox is in development. What we have is a rumor from EGM and their track record on rumors is not so good that I trust everything from them. I also highly doubt that Microsoft has any intention or desire to copy what Sony is doing right now. Their current buisness practices have cost them billions on the console market after spending a long time on top using a slightly different buisness strategy.

Supposing the rumor is true though, I don't think it is anywhere near a confirmation that we will have the system by 2009. If the rumor of Microsoft trying to build a motion sesning controller are correct (and it is very likely to be true if you ask me) then the whole gam could take a while to develop. I would guess that they are going to use a major franchise with near perfect controls (however they are implemented) to push the system when it is launched. Microsoft has already stated they do not want a 4 year life span for a console so it is unlikely that they are going to want to replace the 360 so soon when it is doing well currently.

I guarantee you it's in development. Companies start work on the next console shortly after the previous one releases.

But the NextBox is not coming out in 2009. MS wants to create a path to profitability and cheapening the brand through constant replacements and never letting it last long enough to recoup R&D expenses is not the way to do it.

2010 at the earliest, most likely 2011 is my guess.

I'll 2nd that, development of the next generation hardware starts almost immideatly after launch, sometimes the next generation hardware will even be in early stages of development before the current gen launches!

What I'm really curious about, is whether MS will follow the exact same recipe three times over. Whatever that recipe is; it's not a very good one globally. Besides, Sony has showed us how risky it can be to stick with routine development for too long!

I'd say that it will probably be presented in late 2009, released before xmas 2010.

I think 360 is a step forward in all regions, but there must be more to the next Xbox than just improved specs and more buttons for it be a success.

BoG got banned!! Finally!!

Wonder if he'll stay away cause he's insulted, will come back a little more humble (snort!) or come back after the ban insulting our collective intelligence in banning the best thing to ever hit vgchatz - FTW?

Edit: Love the reason for the ban!

On topic: x3 in 09? Unlikely.  But if the system is even more graphically intensive, then the rumoured game could have a 3 yr + development time cycle.  That put a new system in '10 or '11.  The costs would be astronomical for such a game though.  Could only be Halo 4 and still turn a profit.

Thank god that guy was banned, Anyone who constantly shoves their "blog" in your face while denouncing the very site he is posting on should not even be acknowledged. Nobody wants to look at your stupid blog sir.

On target, Nextbox will hopefully be 2011, I second rocket pig's assumption.

Reason for ban: Sorry to be blunt but you, sir, are just an idiot who adds nothing to this site. Go back to your blog and leave us to our intelligent conversation.

ROTFL ... it trips me out whenever I see a post, open it up and see the OP is banned ... LMBO!!!

Oh yeah ... Blog updated!

Referencing ‘TheSource’ interview with ‘Siren’ (ex-Microsoft product manager) - http://vgchartz.com/news/news.php?id=608

He gives insight into Microsoft’s future business model with the Xbox product. He suggests that they’ll release a new console every 5 years with software support for 10.

This puts the ‘NeXbox’ release around November 2010.

This should also give them yet another year head start on the competition.

I say 2010-11 for net xbox.
