I'll compromise and stop listening to you. But I'll keep my mind open to those who actually have something insightful to say.

I would say what he said is pretty insightful. Maybe you should listen to him.
|
But how can I listen to him when he instructs me to not listen to anyone?
And as someone in the medical field I don't require the abridged mechanics of evolution to understand how it works.
So I find his words entirely uninsightful. You on the otherhand seem to make for more enlightening conversation. Perhaps you could elaborate why you found it to be insightful? Because from where I sit, I am forced to wonder if he would have me disregard a good idea because it's not my own, or stick my fingers in my ears if I encountered an argument that I disagreed with. Obvioiusly it would be impossible to not listen to anybody ever, so, without bias, would you care to explain how to 'use my own brains'? I was under the impression that I already was.

I was refering to his last comment. I wasn't refering to his first statement about you "not using your brains."

That is fair enough. It is a rather unfortunate opening to his case, then. Proceeding with an antagonistic tone makes the rest sound like faux-intellectual drivel. See, it is my belief that humans, collectively speaking, have a great deal of difficulty accepting differences as being equal. Groups form subgroups, which form subgroups, for just about every position conceivable. Cultural diversity accentuates this even further, creating diametrically opposing beliefs, ideals, practises as other groups within certain borders. Genetic diversity and geographic segregation adds to this even further.
As you are no doubt aware, people can get mighty angry on this website over the trivialities between the XBox and the PS3 when it really shouldn't be that hard to enjoy the hobby of playing games on the television without encountering fellow enthusists with nothing but anger over your preferences and purchases. Cultural rifts have longer and bloodier histories than the Console Wars. And the catalyst is human nature.
Even in the civilized societies people are bullied to death or lynched over things like sexual preference and the combination of red hair and freckles. So when I say "There is but one race. The human race.", I am reaffirming my commitment to forever remain mutually exclusive from that BS. If you are a believer, we all come from the same God. If not, we all probably came from the same cell. Regardless, we're all from the same place. Citizens of a rock falling around a blazing sphere over 28 000 mph trying to find some way to live a life of happiness and meaning with the century our lifespans allow.
So, my country is Earth. My race is Human. It is a flawed race, but it can be a good one. I see no purpose in distinguishing myself or anyone else any further based on ancestry, geographic location or skin pigmentation.
