Forums - Gaming - Would sells of video games actually benefit from being released all at once

I talking about different release dates for the same game in different regions ugghh. This is a problem that occurs on every system and a discussion on forum about this usually starts with a person like this example *only two more days before ~insert game here~ arrives in ~insert Region/county/continent here~*.

And while that person is happy a post like that is usually met with a response like this * well you're luckly, I have to wait til’ ~insert month here~ for it to come here in ~insert Region/county/continent here~*.

Why does it have to be like that? If every game was released everywhere at the same time wouldn‘t that make more sells for it? Since everyone would get the game at the same time that would create hype all around the world right? I want to see what does everyone here thinks of this idea of one globally release, is it good idea or bad one. Tell me what you think.

Edit: Maybe I could’ve done without the first and second paragraph, well if it’s too confusing just look at the first sentence and the last paragraph and you’ll get my message.

I dont comprehend, but are you trying to say that if game sales would benefit if they were released simultanously world wide? If that is what you are trying to say, I say no they wont benefit much.

 2008 end of year predictions:

PS3: 22M

360: 25M

wii: 40M

your talking about a simultanously launch right?i think that it wont really matter if they launch the same date or not

Well I'm trying to say if all games were to be released at the same time how would it change the sells compared to the separate releases they have now.

Depending on where the game was developed, it is easier and therefore faster to release a game in one region than others. If games received simultaneous launches, you would have to delay the release in those regions. It's probably better for companies to collect some money now, then release it later in other areas and get more money (and they probably get better feedback on the status of the game). I really doubt simultaneous games will collect more money. If people want it, they'll buy it when it's available.

i think it would slightly improve, but only as long as the translation was part of the dev cycle. having all the hype go up at once (instead of waiting for some people to say it was awful) is a huge benefit. people are also less likely to forget about it since everyone likes staying current.

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

Rol it's depends on the game to say that the benefits are negligible. For instants if NMH got one release date would it still be at the ten thousand mark? It’s games like this one that would benefit greatly from a single release if that was possible. Even if a game has to be delayed it would still be more better then it gatting lost in the crowd (see Z&W).

Depends on the game.

Bad games that get panned by reviewers in Region A may not due well in following regional releases due to bad publicity.

Good games that get praised by reviewers in Region A may due extremely well in the following regional releases due to good publicity.

And of course, between good and bad publicity, we know which affects sales more.

There are some delays that make sense and then there’re some that don’t. As far as I can tell there is no reason why there should be a 6 month delay between a game like Metriod Prime 3 Corruption US and Europe release.

Which brings me back to Nmh, every version of that game has the same voice acting so the only thing that would be effected it from multiple regional release would be the written portion of the game. If there’re any games out there like NMH then giving it a slight delay to get it out to some if not all regions then it would be a great tradeoff to the alternative.
