Forums - Gaming - Unreal Engine 4 Reveal With New Hardware - Analyst

Nowgamer

Unreal Engine 4 is likely to be revealed publicly alongside the reveal of new console hardware, an industry analyst has predicted.

Published on Mar 12, 2012

Unreal Engine 4 was showcased behind closed doors at GDC in San Francisco last week. Epic's Mark Rein has since said that the new engine makes the studio's Samaritan demo look 'feeble' by comparison.

While Unreal Engine 4 has not been unveiled publicly, EEDAR President and CEO Greg Short has predicted that Epic will likely lift the lid on its new engine alongside new console hardware.

Speaking with NowGamer, Short explained, "From a marketing standpoint it would stand to reason that any announcement around Unreal 4 or other major upgrades to engine middleware providers will occur very closely to the announcement of new hardware."

"Since the majority of new features will be designed to maximise these devices they would not be able to promote that fact until the hardware itself had been unveiled."

Jones also added, "Everyone will be looking to E3 this year to see what is announced (if anything!)."

Interestingly enough, Epic also confirmed that the public would see more of Unreal Engine 4 later in 2012.

Could an Unreal Engine 4 reveal appear alongside an Xbox 720 or PS4 unveiling? We'll keep our eyes open for more details.

it can be relieved at any time as PC developers will use it. people by consoles for games not gfx engines. For me it be strange to show it along side hardware when Unreal Engine 4 could easily show of its skills on a PC.

Okay, PS4 and/or Nextbox E3 reveal confirmed.

More and more info points to all new consoles revealed at E3 and launched by end of 2013 at latest.

or even WiiU... its been revealed already but, it was only focusing on tablet controller and some ideas of gameplay. It did not have a full release of info. But more than likely with their agreements with MS it will be with the neXtBox.

Definitely a 720/Nextbox reveal due to Epic's close ties with Microsoft. Microsoft would want to kill off any chance the Wii U has at garnering a decent lead and I believe a Unreal Engine 4 demo running on the 720 would do just that. Combine that with a more functional Kinect device that might finally be viable for core games and we'll have a closer generation sales wise than the last.

Yet I don't see why so many are in a rush for new consoles. The consumer only recently has warmed up to the HD twins, announcing new consoles would only put a halt to all that momentum. The 360 had its best sales year in 2011 if I recall, and it did so with just Gears 3 and Forza 4 under its belt. So clearly the demand is still there.

Analyst prediction? yeah...I will just totally disregard this even though I have no doubt new console(s) will be announced at E3.

I feel MR is exaggerating when he says it will look so much better than the S demo but only time will tell i guess.

so hmm analysts use their anal opening to predict so I don't know what to think of this.

Just give me Pikmin 3 Nintendo!
