That sounds like quite a lot of work! I've tried writing stories in the past, and they take quite a lot of time to do properly... Not that what I ended up with was good, but I spent a lot of time trying. I've never tried to compose, because that's a trainwreck waiting to happen. And I have wanted to make a game, but I'm just not experienced enough or well rounded enough with coding to give it a try.

What kind of music are you looking to compose, and do you have any details for this game you've been working on?

Music:

If you've seen my YT playlist I linked, I like very melodic, varied songs. I get upset when I hear a good song at first but it repeats one melody and never changes, so I want to make songs that I like instead of hoping the community will make them.

I'm not really into music theory so I plan to make them without chords and only the white keys on the piano (lol). Should cut down on production time a lot, I see pony musicians obsessing over harmonies and EQing and so forth.

Game:

It's a 3D Pony RPG, I have an rough engine and art is taken care of. I just need time to make the game itself. My motivation is that all these indie game projects have "creative" ideas that end up being a mess, I want to make something kind of cliched but very polished.

Fanfiction:

Everything I've read is cringingly bad, I have to close the browser tab a few lines in. I haven't seen much episode-style stuff, what EqD puts up is mostly self-inserts  (ex: My Little Dashie), shipping, crossovers or really warped and dark ideas shoved into a pony setting.

To be honest, I've avoided fanfiction for MLP because of all the shipping and grimdark stuff I've heard mentioned. I'm not interested in any of that. And while My Little Dashie was nice, that style (and crossovers) were never my thing, so I guess I'm not missing much. I've considered writing one myself, but I just have no idea what I'd write about.

You should keep us updated on how your work is going. I'm always excited to find new and awesome pony related stuff. Especially games. PonyKart looks like it could be fun (also, Makkon) and Fighting is Magic (of course) looks great, but those aren't done yet. I haven't found many others outside of some basic flash games.

I actually like the fanfiction. There's something about the sea of self-inserts, grimdark inspirations, shipping, bizzare comedy, and the like that draws me in. I dunno, I've always liked fanfiction.

When I have something worth showing I'll put it up here. It'll be nowhere near the professionalism of those two projects, but it'll be better than those one-button flash games.

@salnax: Comedy is good. I haven't really looked into any of it though, because of the shipping/grimdark stuff (mainly). Shipping those adorable little ponies just seems wrong to me, and I was never good with darker stuff. I made the mistake of reading Cupcakes, unaware of what it was about. Never again.

@Soleron: Awesome! I wouldn't expect you to go all out if you're just doing this on your own. Games like Fighting is Magic and stuff have a ton of work going into them... it'd take years for one person to do that.

But I have been interested by a few pony RPG projects that I saw. They were just nowhere near to being done. It's likely they aren't even around now. I'd ask if you wanted help, but I'm afraid my knowledge of code is just too basic to be of any real help.
