mysticwolf, what did you think of S2E8 Mysterious Mare Do Well?

I really liked it, but I didn't like that Rainbow was really selfish.

But it really surprised me when Mare Do Well turned out to be Pinkie Pie and the gang.

It's good that at the end Rainbow was set straight. I was starting not to like her rudeness.

According to various ranking polls of Ponychan, it was the least liked episode by far, because it wasn't written as a pony episode.

Rainbow's character was bad, her friends' reaction (not to tell her but to humiliate her) was wrong, she never learned the real lesson because of how the show was set out. But also structural flaws, the shown stroller+baby, crane, dam and so on did not fit with the established pony world at all.

If you liked it, I would say you won't find a bad episode in S2.

I basically have undying hatred for the writer of MMDW, PYHD and HWE.

HWE?

well, i actually didn't like it very much, but I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I mean, it was an okay episode, but the way RD acted ruined it for me.

Don't be such a push over! Just because Soleron is being critical of an episode you somewhat liked doesn't mean you have to go around changing your opinion. Opinions are waht makes us all unique. Even though the Mare do episode is too at the bottom of my list of episodes I liked, I still enjoyed it. My mane *chuckles* problem with the episode, as Soleron already stated, was how Ponyville was transformed into a world of disasters. It really was cliche of super hero movies saving the runaway bus and baby carriages etc.

Other than that, I think they did a wonderful job of depicting Rainbow Dash's overly competitive nature. She loves to be number one. We saw that she was competitive in the Iron Pony episode with AppleJack. Rainbow Dash hates losing, she loves the spotlight... this is all allured to in previous episodes. I don't think this episode made her character unlikable. I think it did a wonderful job reminding us just how competitive she can be. I love her character. And any competitive person can relate to it.

Could the episode have been better? Absolutely. But at the same time it got the message across.

Yeah I was asking for your opinion without first saying mine so I could see how you really felt.

I've been negative about certain episodes, but it is comparing it to the rather high standard of being a show I will watch forever. By a normal cartoon standard all of the episodes are very good. What gets to me isn't a bad episode per se but I extrapolate that certain staff may have forgotten why the show worked in S1. Of course the S2 finale made up for all of it and more, and its writer is now the lead writer.

tl;dr get hyped for the season finale.

@hatmoza

The story itself was a good idea, agreed. A few dialogue changes and disaster scenes cut and it would do a complete turn around.

I thought it was intended to be a bit of a parody on the typical superhero movie with loads of disasters all happening at once- I thought it was quite entertaining xD

Ohh Hearth's Warming Eve - I'll be honest, I wasn't super keen on that episode myself

MMDW was rough for reasons mentioned, but i liked Hearth's Warming Eve. It laid down more of Equestria's history. I think they did a good job with Putting Your Hoof Down. Iron Will was an interesting character (less one-dimensional than other "enemies," since he wasn't even really a straight-up antagonist), and it (along with Hurricane Fluttershy), helped show that Fluttershy's inadequacies are mostly in her own head, but that she's also comfortable with who she is

Mysterious Mare Do Well would have clicked if Rainbow Dash had done more to deserve it

Edit: The weaker episode from season 2 was "Family Appreciation Day," imo. The humor of Granny Smith works well without investigating her too closely

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

you know, Rainbow Dash is my favorite, but some of her episodes make her very hard to like. she's got the most character, she's the most fun of the group and I like her and applejack for similar reasons (they're both strong willed), but they really play out her flaws to make her look like someone I'd hate in real life. when it's not a Dash episode and she's just one of the group, she's easily the most awesome, but when it focuses on her, it makes her look like a selfish, shallow bitch. :P
