Both with and without chemical assistance. I strongly do not recommend anyone try doing so. You are not very lucid after 50-60 hours. And before anyone starts screaming 'its impossible!' I have suffered very serious medical problems from such bad lifestyle choices. (multiple strokes, liver and kidney failer) These days I still pull regular 20 hour sessions but I make sure I sleep and eat well and I'm too old for the chemicals. |
wow thats incredible how did you stay awake that long
'chemical assistance' was the polite way of saying drugs - speed, meth-amphetamine, ecstasy, LSD, and good old caffeine. with drugs its actually easy to stay awake that long. its a lot harder doing it naturally, without the drugs. But I've done that a few times too as I'm a bad insomniac.
Geez, I don't know because I've never watched the clock, but I've done LAN parties with everything from Rise of the Triad to Quake to Unreal Tournament for well over 12-14 hours. There was a stretch in 1996 or 1997 maybe where I did some mod and level design work on Rise of the Triad for nearly two days straight. I did some level creation on Duke Nukem 3D that caused me many sleepless nights, too.
Going back to my school days there were a lot of missed classes staying up all night drinking beer and playing Madden or General Chaos on the Genesis, or Super Mario World and Mario Kart on the SNES.
I might have missed a couple of days worth of high school when Final Fantasy came out on the NES too. :/

Honestly I can play a game indefinitely thanks to my genetics. In my family my mother, brother, sister, and myself all have abnormal sleep characteristics. We quite literally can do all sorts of things while we are sleeping. Hold on conversations, eat full blown meals, and even play videogames. There have been times during late night gaming binges where I slip into slumber, but continue to do whatever I was doing at the time. So if I was playing a game I would continue to play the game, and from most reports I am a damn fine player perhaps even better while I am out of it.
I have actually maxed out around sixty hours of gaming. That would be two and a half days, and probably the only reason I stopped was, because we had to take the videogames back to the rental store. I still occasionally chalk up a twenty hour grind fest though, and a few years back I did a 36 hour stretch.
Yes I am a hardcore gamer, and occasionally I can become a bit compulsive.
