Thanks for sharing that article Pokemonbrawlvg.
It was a long read but it was very good and more people should read it. This, and the Emily Rogers article.
I can`t imagine developers not learning a a bitter lesson this generation. It seems that with every generation the risk of failure is ever more present and developers haven`t really been able to adapt. Yes, many did good, like Activision and Ubisoft, but at the same, time we have seen hundreds of studios closing and a lot of lay-offs. It seems that, today, if your average studio fails on making a successful it`s game over for them.
Teams have been increasing, marketing money has been increasing, everything has been increasing. The only thing that hasn`t catch up are gaming prices, to a point where even more copies need to be sold to at least break even. And it`s not DLC or digital downloads that are going to solve this because if things keep going the way they are going, even more money is going to be spent on making games, so more copies are needed.
Will the market grow more this generation? No. And not just because of smartphones and tablets (nothing`s stopping those gamers from owning consoles or vice-versa), but also because there were a lot of Wii owners who ended up buying Xbox 360 and PS3`s. So, if Wii U does get a good 3 party support, that situation won`t repeat itself in the same way.
