Unlike the mascot img in your signature. ;)

Horrid, I know. I was wondering when somebody was going to say something about that. I should've known it was going to be you! LOL :) It wasn't easy to see another Ducks mascot air surfing. Go Ducks!

This was supposed to be an Action-RPG made by Retro Studios some time ago. Do you guys think this game has a chance of being revived?

Some news to spark your fancy, Geoff Keighley has confirmed that there will be huge new E3 announcements starting tomorrrow. We don't know whom they will be from, but with any luck it might be Nintendo-related.

It more than likely Sony related. Sony likes to release news in the week coming up to E3. Nintendo usually goes silent the week heading to E3, and silencing anyone making anything for them. That what usually gives Nintendo press conference it pop or fizzle outcomes.

The final name/logo for Nintendo's next console has been revealed! It's...

Reggie has already confirmed that Wii U won't have Blu ray and will be running proprietary optical disc technology.

If it looks like a Bu-Ray, walks like a Blu-Ray and quacks like a Blu-Ray, its a Blu-Ray lol. Like I've said, it's going to be similar to the Wii and DVDs. All it would need to run Blu-Ray films is a Homebrew Media Player with the necccessary codecs. It will be a proprietary format, of course, but the dev and test kits will run on bog standard writable Blu-Ray discs and DVDs, hence the news of developers and publishers getting the hardware and software needed if they don't already have the hardware from PS3 projects.

Incorrect.  The discs and drives must come from Matsushita.   You can't take a blank Blu-ray writable disc, write game code to it and expect it to run on a Wii U test kit.

I explained in my post above what the optical media is.

And where have you heard of devs writing their Wii code to standard blank DVD's?   They were all written to special Matsushita discs, not off the shelf DVD media.

Aw, okay...my bad. I just assumed that Wii development was similar to PS2 development in that way. Despite the PS2 also using proprietary discs developers and publishers used to use bog standard DVDs for PS2 development and testing. I've never worked on a Wii title myself - just PC, Xbox, PS2, 360, PS3, PSP, GBA and DS titles.

The fact remains that despite the Wii using a proprietary disc for software, the drive itself is a bog standard DVD drive with software ( the Wii OS) preventing the use of bog standard DVDs. If it was a hardware issue, ie. the DVD drive isn't a standard DVD drive at all, then you'd only be able to enable the recognition of bog standard DVDs by chipping it.

And it'll be the same with the Blu-Ray drive in the U. It'll be a bog standard Blu-Ray drive with software preventing the use of bog standard Blu-Ray discs. And because of that Homebrew will be able to insert the codecs neccessary to play Blu-Ray films via a Media Player.

Nintendo must be ready to reveal something big if they are going all out for the press conference!

I'm stoked about the Wii U! The signs seem to suggest no name change. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't change the name to NES6 or something cool like that, but Wii U is pretty cool. I can't wait for all the new bits of info to come in. I'm especially intrigued about the Android OS rumor, but there really isn't any good evidence for it online that I can find.
