Saddest Videogame Endings
 

Just to toy around a little bit, I wanted to know what the overall Vgchartz community thought of which was the saddest videogame ending ever. I know a thread about the topic was recently revived, but this one is a much more organized thread where I will compile your votes and eventually write something about the Top picks.

So, anyway, basic rules:

0. Though not mandatory, you are free to explain why you think the ending is very sad or detail it. (Also, read rule numer 4) 

1. There are potential spoilers.

2. You must have at least 50 posts to vote.

3. You will cast your top 3 picks, do it in this format:

        3p - Metal Gear 6's Ending. (Saddest)

        2p - Mother 4's Ending. (2nd Saddest)

        1p - The Last Guardian's Ending. (3rd Saddest)


4. You have to give me at least 3 picks, otherwise, your vote will not be counted.

5. If you explain why the ending was sad, and if they were released in 2012 or 2011, please, add spoilertags.

6. The votings will be closed in a week, so you have plenty of time to think about your top picks.

3p - Professor Layton and The Unwound Future.

2p - Mother 3

1p - The Legend of Zelda: The WInd Waker

3p - Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

2p - Final Fantasy X

1p - Metal Gear Solid 3

Ok, hopefully this is how you want it for format purposes ...

3p Red Dead Redemption (was kind of sad, but mostly just here because you asked for 3 endings. My last choice out of the 3)

2p Shadow of the Colossus (an obvious choice)

1p Silent HIll 2 "In Water" ending     (this is my saddest pick, and I think it is probably the best "downer" ending in a video game. It also fits the best with the story of the game imo. Also, I think it is the "most" canon of the endings not just because it is referenced in SH4, but also because what James does in this ending is one of the prominent themes of the game)

I really only had the Silent Hill 2 ending in mind. It was hard to come up with other choices since most games end with a "they lived happily ever after" type ending. I was kind of confused about the order you wanted so, just to be clear, Silent Hill 2 "In Water" is my number 1 pick as the saddest video game ending.

I think I wasn't clear enough, I meant 3 points is the saddest, and you said SH2 is your saddest pick.
